Hi, New To The Forum And Having Some Trouble With My Car...

Hi all!

I've just bought my first car, a 2002 ford KA style. Had it for a fortnight and noticed something strange!

Occasionally when I stop at a junction, when I go to pull away there is no biting point. Engine is still running, so car isn't stalled, and car is in gear, but there is no biting point and as such the car wont go anywhere.

Always resolves if I restart the car. Car had a new clutch in December.

What could the problem be?

Hoping that it's something really obvious and I'm being dim (as a new driver and all!), but wondering if anyone else has experience with this or advice?

Thanks

H

Welcome to the site Hannah!

If the new clutch was fitted at a garage then i would take it back as it shouldnt have failed within 6 months. It sounds like the clutch mechanism (release bearing?) is sticking so when you let the pedal up it is actually still engaged otherwise the engine would stall.

I've only had the car for a fortnight so have no idea where the new clutch was fitted unfortunately. I'll have to bite the bullet and take it into the garage and just hope it's nothing expensive!

Thanks for your reply :)

Was it a private sale then or from a garage?

Private sale.

The only other thing is it wasn't driven for 3 months before I bought it, so I don't know if that could make it play up!

Does the clutch pedal still come back to the top or does it stick to the floor?

Clutch pedal comes back up.

It's odd, engine revs if I give it gas but there just doesn't seem to be a biting point!
