Suggestions For Sub

I will just mention to consider Focal as well for comps. I have a set of Focal 165KR in the front and I am extremely happy with them. You can get very good sound quality with just the fronts upgraded, like I did as my budget was tight.

I have a set of Focal 165F's and can recommend them to no end. Power them properly they'll go stupid loud without distortion and retaining all the crisp sounds! Pricey though! Worth writing a list of several brands and models, eg JL Audio as lenny suggested, focal and a few others!

I have my Focals paired up with a 10" JL Audio sub in a custom enclosure powered by a JL Audio JX500/1D And had it set up by one of the audio engineers at work (I specialise in lighting so I'd have set the car on fire) and the sound is fantastic.

Im considering a pair of the JL's Lenny has for my back doors so I'll have a mixture of it all :)

@ Lenny

never seen or heard of Boom mats but seems like a simple but good idea!

I might have to get some of these....I've purchased an android HU so a few mods to commence...

I have boom mats in the front doors. Compared to before and after (tried them with and without) the boom mats make a much more complete sound if that makes sense? Without them some of the sound just rattles throughout the door

I recommend them mate got them in all four doors,

They come in a range of sizes,

They also prevent the speaker from coming in contact with moisture from within the door cavity,

There construction contains some sort of volcanic ash or somthing which helps reflect the sound,

When fitting,

Dont punch a hole in them to route cables yhrough,

Bring cables out at the front and gently screw speaker in to place.

Definatly want a good set of comps eventually I think I might stick wil JL cause of how good the sub sounds. Short term plan of action!:

Carpet amp mount

Install leds for glow behind amp

New parcel shelf, (cut 6x9 holes in - don't ask)

New clips for door cards to eliminate rattles

If fitting some Speakers to your parcel shelf i recommend purchasing a small rectangular sheet of 6mm thick MDF and bond it to the rear side of the parcel shelf spanning its width to reinforce it,

This will prevent it flexing under heavy bass aswell as create a tighter bass response in the boot compartment.

Paint or carpet it black to blend in.

Moving on from this;

Id purchase some black rubber hose (i can supply small door seal if desired)

Put your speaker cables inside this rubber pipe and glue it to the underside of the parcel shelf,

Leaves them tidy, protected and out of sight,

Or router out a 3mm cavity in the MDF panel and run the speaker cables sandwiched inside.

Id use nuts and bolts to secure the Speakers in to the parcel shelf instead of screws as they look much cleaner and no risk of getting scratched,

Finally then,

Id terminate the cables from the parcel shelve with a 4 core connector from AutoLeads

This makes the parcel shelf easily removable by unplugging the connector.

The speaker baffles are also available in 6x9 form to hide and protect the rear of the Speakers.

In other news:

Had MRi scan yesterday following fall on 13th May says I've cracked pelvis on ball joint of left leg aswell as torn ligaments

Get well soon mate, sounds nasty.

I did have some 6x9s fitted in the shelf and they sounded okay but I had a mate that wanted to upgrade audio on a budget so give them to him for cheap cause I'd rather invest my money in better fronts.

Ive had a look Into the speaker baffles, I think I would get them if it weren't for the rattles, I need some sound deadening to eliminate as much as I can - thanks for the suggestion though. Pictures to follow this weekend when the carpet arrives - can't wait to see it finished and the work payed off!

@ Lenny - get well soon and get the missus to look after you. By order of the male superiority :P

where did you get the 4 core connectors from? i couldnt find them online

@ Joe - taking the door cards off is easy peasy - its re-installing that takes a bit of time. I'm with you on the rattles but as i have a diesel it rattles like a tractor anyways :o

Looking forward to seeing some pics

Yeah I've took them off when putting new components in, getting them off is easy just back on properly. Someone mentioned earlier on in the thread (can't remember who it was, sorry!) this can weaken the clips so get new ones. This will be done at the same time I put some sound deadening in. Hopefully boot will be done at the weekend!

Tis killing me mate,

I just fell over on concrete floor,

But i had an Atex rated work phone clipped to my left pocket which impacted on my leg/hip knocking the ball joint out, tearing ligaments and cracking my pelvis,

Look forward to pictures mate,

Carpet should arrive today or tomorrow as despatched last Monday.

The door card clips are available quite cheap on eBay aswell heres where i bought mine link:

UPDATE

Carpet arrived Friday (thanks again Lenny) and did the LED plate. I have today carpeted the amp mounting point and installed the LEDs, and wired up the amp on its new raised bottle cap pedestal - tip from Lenny.

Everything is in and working, gonna Hoover and clean it up tomorow - pics to follow in next couple of days!

I'm looking forward to the pics Joe.

I did a bit of work on installing my amp box and then decided to trim the carpet and got my measurements wrongs and cut it an inch too short on either side

Gotta install the wiring for the new amp and have to wait for a few bits to arrive to finish the install of my new android stereo (obd2 bt adapter as old one has died and fakra connecter). This means i have to rip it all out again :(

i had the opposite where there was too much material and i couldnt get it to look neat. plud i had a poor set of scissors which meant i could cut in a straight line.....i should have just folded it over to make it look neat.

Thanks mate

Just need to tidy it up, I don't like the colour of the LED glow so I'm gonna order a different colour. Sort that out and a clean up should be bang on!

Im going to be relocating the boot light just not sure where to yet. There is actually a LED plate behind the amp - you cant see it much and the colour (hate it) doesnt help. Im thinking about blue, the amp lights up blue when on, or red for this, undecided. Suggestion?
