namtab
Just read this on the Volvo website, maybe Ford could take note !!!!!! "A full system check and free software upgrade, using Volvo's diagnostic equipment, is also included in Volvo's service promise. This ensures that your Volvo is running the very latest version of any software available for your particular car. Cars are run by computers these days and new software can often make a car run more efficiently, thereby saving you money. "
jayteepics
Thought Ford owned Volvo? If so seems the Daddy could extend this to its own named make ?
namtab
Yes jayteepics I think your right, don't understand why Ford don't do this anyway it doesn't cost them anything and it's great customer service.
iantt
good if they did, but if it aint broke, dont fix it comes to mind, what makes you think updating makes anything better, updates are usually for for fixing certain issues but potentially can cause other issues instead.and also can render car imobiliised if updates fails to load correctly most manufaturers are struggling with the software on all the modules on a car now anyway, think volvo and other manufacturers can make statements like that without doing updates, as how would the owner know if any were availiable . gillyallan
I don't think anyone can say it wouldn't cost them. If they update they probably then have to test crucial safety features. Ie. Oh dear. I didn't realise the fiesta with Sony radio but also had optional front parking sensors, that this update had a conflict which turns off abs without dash warning. Result...They get court action. Ok maybe extreme but this sort of scenario without testing.
iantt
Free , no such thing as free, bet you the service times creep up to compensate for the extra time to connect and update
jayteepics
OK How about you get the option to choose an update or not - just like Microsoft Windows? If early updating gets you screwed that's what happens to guinea pig early adopters :( If not updating gets you hacked (thinking Bluetooth) that's tough for not choosing the update :P Now who is it that supplies the Sync2 'operating system'? :o Ah could that be Microsoft
