Applink In My Mk3.5 Focus

Morning All,

Don't mind me just blurting out all the issues and help I need haha

Just tried to use Applink in my focus with a Ford approved app (Spotify) from my iPhone 6 and well considering I work in IT I am ashamed to say I have no idea what to do lol

I followed this...

Your step-by-step guide:
  • Download an AppLink enabled App (e.g. Spotify) from the usual store to your iOS or Android smartphone. To save time, you can see all the compatible apps in the Ford App Catalogue.
  • Connect your smartphone to your car’s Ford SYNC with AppLink system via: bluetooth® (for Android devices) or USB cable (for Apple devices).
  • Select the app either from the ‘Mobile Apps’ menu, or by pressing the ‘Voice’ button and saying the name of the app.
  • The app adds commands to Ford SYNC with AppLink and these can be accessed using your voice, or your car’s audio or steering wheel controls.
  • With Spotify, for example, you can select a playlist using SYNC’s voice recognition. Just say; “Choose Playlist”, say the name of that playlist and Spotify starts playing while also displaying the song info on SYNC’s display. In addition, if you need Help at any time say “Spotify Help” and Ford SYNC will list out other possible voice commands available.

So I downloaded the App and USB'd it to the car, no idea where the mobile apps menu is so I went for voice and said Spotify

The lovely Lady who I have named Betty tells me to stop being a prat and say something I understand...

To which I shut up and carried on with my Fiio X1 playlist...

Any help would be great

Cheers

Well I think I may have found the issue...

Using the website I went through the compatibility portal thing and found that the iPhone 6 is currently not compatible with Ford Sync 2 Applink...

I don't know if it is with an update but from what I see they cost every time from a dealer...

Bad times

I've just been trying to figure Applink out myself. The Ford UK website states that Sync 2 does not support applink what so ever. Yet again, Ford Europe has shafted us.

Found various documentation for US variants, and their Sync 2 certainly has it.

I've been trying to suss this out for almost a year now, since I got my Focus 3.5. The web site seems to indicate it will work but I can't find a way to get it working. It lists apps on the web site but none seem to link up or work. Some people say it only works on sync1. It's a mess basically, like the lack of support or updates to sync, which abroad can be simply downloaded, but here you have to pay the dealer or take a chance downloading from abroad.

I found out from XDA forums I think it was that actually all of the "AppLink" documentation and video demonstrations are of unreleased and uncompleted software. It could happen one day, but I really don't think it will. So even the US lot don't have it on their Sync 2 either :(

When I say it could happen, you have that "install apps/updates" button which is some indication of a feature that never happened. Plus you can connect the car as wifi client to a network rather than just as a hotspot....

I updated my MK3.5 Focus to the new version from a file on the India Ford server and all went well, although it reset some things... for example my recent destinations had gone and my Home had also gone it does seem to of made a speed difference to the Nav which is welcome. It took well over 30 minutes and rebooted about 5 times during the process...

When I go out to the car today I will test to see if Applink works on Android and iOS but I very much doubt it...

Cheers

Thanks for the info.

Am not brilliant on this sort of thing, but have a mate who might help.

The Appli link stuff is a real mystery, the Ford site indicates it should work, but it seems it doesn't.

Ford support is a bit poor. I am sure there is loads that could be easily added to sync.

Please see my comment above. There is no AppLink on Sync 2. It was never completed or released sadly.
