I've rattling underneath the car it's the exhaust heat shield along parts of it the back 2 from what I can see, I reattached the rear one by moving exhaust heat shield across enough to hold it in place I thought that was it but today I've noticed another section that has done the same, I can't reach this part until I get the car over a pit I've seen that some people have removed the heat shield is this safe? it is worth bolting it back again? what size is the thread?

its likely that the shield has corroded away allowing the shield to pass over the little washers.

you might need to invest in some bigger washers to help get around that if it has.

as for running it without. well, they put it there for a reason, I ran without a central piece for a few weeks and never has any issues. id imagine it might allow the hand brake cable to get corroded quicker and warm up the floor somewhat. I reckon keeping the shield around the fuel tank is probably a good idea tho

I usually make alumiun washers with a holesaw (35mm usually) but the last few times i have used tigerseal with great success so it might be an option for you if you would rather keep it.

I cut a coke can into bigger washers which I folded double. Did the trick and don't corrode.
