2005 Fiesta 1.25 Timing Belt Change - A Few Pics

On Wednesday I changed a timing belt for a mate on a 2005 1.25 fiesta, so I thought I'd share a few pics and let others have a glimpse at some of what's involved.

It's a similar setup for a few engines in the zetec range.

It does require a timing locking kit, flywheel locking tool, pulley holding tool, torque wrench and a belt kit including new cam and crank pulley bolts. An angle gauge would be helpful but no essential, a little tipex on the crank bolt and pulley is easy to work out when it's turned 90 degrees.

I was using an impact wrench for most of the removal process but it's no essential.

I would strongly recommend changing the drive belts at this stage too as they need to come off anyway. Be aware that models without a tensioner fitted will have stretch belts. They can be fitted and removed without any special tools but if you have one it will help greatly.

Apologies for the pics being the wrong way, they forum has changed them around.

I dont suppose you could do a write up on doing this please? I'm quite mechanically able, but wouldn't know how to start without doing something wrong in terms of timing :)

Yeah I guess I probably could bud, it's quite a good engine to do in terms of access and relatively straight forward.

Be great if you could :)

You'll need a few basic tools, a good breaker bar is a must.

You can get timing and locking tools online or from eBay for relatively low cost. The bolts from ford were a few quid each.

Only thing worth noting is that there are various tensioner setups so, ECP had 6 to choose from!

I have all the tools listed above as well as the one for the stretch belt as I planned on doing it a while back :)

As for the tensioner set up. I know which belts I need as I read into it and then confirmed with two garages (both of which were reluctant to help until I told them I may be back at the end of the month.. haha)

Ah well your onto a flying start already then.

That's why I'm wanting to get it done cause if not I've spent the money on tools for no reason :(
