Thank you tazzman, :)

I will definitely say that top gear does not always appeal to me....

Sometimes the silly behaviour got to me when clearly things weren't happening as described:

The American trip where they got that dead cow on the roof and roadkill... To me this was not pleasant and not necessary, who were they trying to fool? I can see a real life Ali-G floating around in his nova 'tellin' his 'crew' how "wikkid it woz wen jezza n dat lot woz eeetin dat rowwdkill like".... While the rest of us were thinking, well that was a bit disrespectful to that cow and of course they found the nearest steak house...

Then the time Clarkson drove a rolls Royce into a swimming pool that was supposedly having its grand opening...

Those two parts stuck in my mind because they were clearly set up and all a bit weak... But the other batches of idiocy did have me laughing... Plus they made me want to go to some amazing places in the world...

It's an entertainment show (whether you like it or not), It's planned and mostly scripted,

with their bigger outdoor adventures more of it will be unscripted, because more unexpected things happen,

but they know what they need to do and what to say, it costs a fortune to make Top Gear,

they have to get that brilliant footage they need to make the show, it's impossible to capture everything on the fly.

Clarkson even joked when they won an Emmy Award for 'Best Non-Scripted Program',

He said they couldn't attend because they were too busy writing the Scripts for the show.

It wasn't really meant to be a factual show, it was light entertainment, being on at 8pm on a Sunday shows this! As others have said, it may be a good show with Evans presenting, but it won't be what most Top Gear viewers wanted from the show. I watched it for a laugh!

Ultimately I think a lot of people will lose interest and wait for Clarkson, Hammond & May to produce their own show.

Lots of good points made. To me, someone whose watched it from show No1 in the late 70's. It started as factual and gradually to entertainment. The latest 3 stooges needed to be replaced as after all they've been doing it for God knows how long. Top Gear IS Top Gear no matter who presents it. Yes people today are more vocal about change compared to people of the 70's and 80's and 90's etc etc. The 'new' show should be given a chance just as the older versions of TG were given. I think Chris Evans will do a cracking job. The 3 stooges may well start up another car related entertainment show. Let's hope they do.

This is a very good thread.

The 70's Topgear wasn't that good? Angela Rippon, William Woollard, Tony Clarke it was like a teacher presenting, Buy the book, no interest in what they were saying and "if they broke in to smile they'd be arrested!", but when Quintin Wilson & Clarkson arrived it was real cars all the way , real enthusiasm & passion !, they should get that fit german women Sabrina Smitz on who manages the Nuerburgring ! Forget Clarkson

Maybe Admiral why you think or maybe even remember why TG was like a teacher presenting is because those three people were News readers and professional at that also. I found those early shows interesting and good. Mmmmm as for getting the Nerburgring Queen on the new show? That could well be a good choice but her accent is a little too strong.

Yes when used car salesman Quentin arrived things changed and again when curly top arrived. It's called change or even evolution. So who could be the 3rd presenter?

I am very glad that I don't watch Top Gear anymore - as if I did I certainly wouldn't after this news.

There are words I could use to voice my opinion of him, but I don't want to activate the swear filters...

I'll still proberly watch it? It's about cars I love cars!, I'd prefer a mixture of normal cars New ,Modern & 70's /80s /90's cars being featured on a TV show instead of the super cars I've no chance of driving let alone owning, what also needs to happen is proper road tests on UK rounds and not on a perf

TBH, I don't think they could ever replicate Top Gear.... There was the perfect mix of Car reviews and pointless banter...

If you want to watch a pure car review show watch crappy 5th gear...

I have however heard on the grapevine that Clarkson, hammond and May are apparently in talks over a similar style show, but obviously under a different name..... Heres hoping.

According to the sun I believe it was (and we know how accurate they report everything) jezza was offered the tg role a week ago, told them no and they offered it to evans

Again, I know they are as accurate at record keeping as tax evasion companies...

Tax evasion is illegal, tax avoidance is legal ;)

Anyway, I also heard that, but the BBC deny it, so I don't know whether it was one of those chats where a person in power said "James, if someone was to offer you the job again, would you take it?" therefore all unofficial, etc..
