Anyone Flown American Airlines?

Just curious about this as we are flying with them to NYC from Birmingham in November and I've only flown with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic previously. The new service from Birmingham to JFK only started in May using a Boeing 757.

When we booked through the travel agent, the flights were under BA but they don't fly to NYC from Birmingham so they use American Airlines for their customers as part of the One World Alliance.

I imagine a cheeseburger will be on the in-flight menu :P

Any experience of the Airline?

Cheers

I've flown with them before.

My most recent flight with them resulted in quite an experience. Plane (ageing 757) was having technical difficulties, airline made passengers wait in lounge, and the flight was delayed. After what seemed like ages, they called us back saying the problem was fixed, everyone boarded, and eventually the aircraft started taxiing.

Just as we get close to the runway, pilot announces over the intercom that the aircraft seemed to be burning too much fuel. Taxied back to the gate, all let off. They told us a replacement aircraft would be organized, but of course that didn't happen. In the end though, we received a bunch of food vouchers, got to stay a night @ the local Hilton for free, and placed onto next morning's expensive Jet Blue (excellent airline) flight, on premium seats.

Can't complain really. :)

Good of them to sort that then! I've never flown from Birmingham either so that's something else new to me.

They Partner with BA, flown with them loads of times to RSW from NCY.... Planes are ok, occasionally you get an old one but you have to be pretty unlucky... you will be fine.

Better that they resolved the issue than took a flight that wouldn't work.

They're ok...the 757 is quite old now. I'm flying to the US next Tuesday with Virgin to Las Vegas. Their planes look lovely. Enjoy the trip!

Thank you. Going on a 747 there and 787 back (coming back from LAX) upper class, can't wait! I'm back to the UK from Crete on Friday.

Can't see me washing the cars anytime soon!

Hope you have a lovely trip Dark Knight.

Cheers Chris and likewise. Have you been to Vegas before? If not, I have a superb recommendation for a meal out...

The 747's have been revamped by Virgin not long back and are superb. Premium economy with champagne etc. was very nice as we normally go economy. Even economy with Virgin is good.

Well thinking about it, even if you have been before, you might not have eaten here so I will recommend it anyway!

Make sure you eat at The Sugar Factory (not at all like it sounds). Ask for a table on the patio area, after dark for obvious reasons, and enjoy views of the Bellagio Fountains across the road!

The restaurant itself is virtually underneath the Eiffel Tower at Paris Hotel & Casino and I enjoyed a delicious medium-rare fillet steak!

Check out the pics of the said restaurant and view below courtesy of Google. Let me see if I can find some of my fave pics from Vegas last year too...

Last summer, I went on a coach tour of parts of western USA which was FANTASTIC! (Archers holidays). The tour guide was brilliant, the hotels were good to fabulous and we made some new friends along the way. Memories to savour and a holiday that will struggle to be topped.

We covered: Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Williams, Grand Canyon, Seligman, Las Vegas, Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite National Park, Sonora, Sacamento, San Francisco.

Here's a selection of Vegas pics:

Wow that looks amazing! Thanks for the heads up about Virgin...we thought we'd go with them rather than BA because of the slightly nicer interior, I also get to go on the planes I really wanted, (747 & 787 v 747 & A380)

We arrive in Vegas around 2 in the afternoon local time, spend the rest of the day there and the following day, then begin the trip to the Grand Canyon the following day. We're staying in Caesar's Palace. We 'should' be getting a Mustang convertible, so will post plenty of pics of the trip on here.

After the canyon we head to LA and stay in a few houses we've rented, I can't wait! I'm in Greece at the minute and the time difference if massive compared to Cali but at least I'll have 3 days at home first!

Excellent stuff. As if by magic, I've found some videos too (take off from Heathrow and landing at LAX):

Lovely!

We're going LGW to Las Vegas and returning LAX to LHR.

Were you on a 747?

Sure was. Lady Penelope going out and I believe it was Ruby Tuesday coming back (not sure if I'm getting confused with NYC in 2006 on that though)

Only just noticed you are 16. They are quite strict in the casinos with folks underage being anywhere near the tables! I tried to play blackjack and got asked for ID (I was 30 at the time). Driving licence card was fine.

You have to be 21 to drink too.
