Compass Reversed On Sony Navigation System

Hi

On the Sony DAB/Navigation system, when navigation is active the compass in the top right is reversed for the East and West directions. North and South are fine.

Is this a known issue?

Car was new May 2014.

Thanks in advance :)

I'll have to check this on mine, I picked up the car end of April 2014 so it probably has exactly the same system as yours.

Have you tried doing a factory reset of Sync, or whatever the reset option is called?

No I haven't tried a reset, I assume I would lose all the custom settings I have selected...?

Here are the version numbers:

Maps: Sd2_Ford_MFD_E_WesternEurope_sys_SW2253

Navigation system: N2189VM__9.3C4P17

SW Version: 2428-131220

Part No: F1BT-14D358-DA

Silly question, which way was the car pointing?

Car was pointing in the direction of travel!

Driving due west, compass points east (right)

Driving due east, compass points west (left)

Driving due north, compass points north (up)

Driving due south, compass points south (down)

Driving north west, compass points north east, etc etc.

Only east and west are reversed.

Can you take a pic? I can't even remember where the compass is shown on the Fiesta Navigation...

Sure here you go. Top right. Here the car is pointing east. Direction shows west.

Does the main icon showing your position face the correct direction?

Isn't that just always pointing north? So if the car is pointing East that arrow will point to the 90 clock position to indicate North.

Possibly, just like a real compass. I'll have a look next time I use my nav.

If it didn't point north it wouldn't be a compass, lol

Lol yes exactly. I was thinking of the compass settings on an old tomtom I had, it could point north or towards your destination, and maybe some other setting.

Easy way to test the theory it points North

Drive along a North South road in both directions. Observe the arrow.

Repeat on an East West road.

Sat Navs often do show course up.

At sea we have a similar setup on our Radars (course up, head up or north up - ground stabilised or sea stabilised, relative motion or true motion)

From my interpretation of that direction arrow I would say that it always points to north so by that screen I would say you are heading east.

Aha, yes, the penny drops! It now makes perfect sense that it always points North. For some reason I had it in my head that it was supposed to be showing the direction of travel.

Thanks for all your replies, clearly this is a non-issue!

Cheers all.

Hi , I am sure that icon is fixed to NORTH only ! it does not spin round to the direction of travel , having said that why is that feature there ?
