Buying Car V5 Issue

I will be buying a car off a man, who is selling 8-9 cars on autotrader, he has a website and logo.

He has no physical site where he does business.

Does he fit the definition of a dealership.

He informed me that he sent the yellow slip off, but my hpi check can't confirm this. Even though the reg/vin came back clear I'm still a tad but scared about the lack of clarity regarding the ownership of the vehicle.

If I was to call the DVLA tomorrow would they inform of the new owners identity, or would the data protection act prevent from doing this?

I would be reporting him to trading standards. The definitions for a trader are vague, but if your selling your own vehicle registered in your name it's a private sale. Not many people have 7 cars in their name, so I would be thinking he is a trader. Unless he acknowledged this, I would walk. Commonly people who trade from home think they are not obliged by your rights as a buyer, but just because you don't have an office doesn't means that you aren't a trader.

Search the number plate on Google, if there are no results search colour make and model. Sometimes you will see the cache where perhaps the car had been sold at auction a few days ago.
