Spare Wheel/tyre

Still haven't got a spare wheel/tyre for my Fiesta (another problem I need to sort out!) and I keep 'faffing' around.

Have been in contact with local scrap yards/breakers but they either don't bother replying or they don't have what I want.

Have looked on eBay but I'm a bit stumped as to what to get.

The tyres I've currently got on my Fiesta are 195/50 R15. Will I have to get a spare wheel with the tyre being the exact same size etc as what I've got now? (although a guy at the AA said I should be fine with a 14" tyre).

Also, is it worth getting a full size wheel/tyre rather than a space saver?

Another option would be to just buy the wheel and getting a tyre myself, although this would be more expensive.

Edit: Just to add, spotted this on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-15-FULL-SIZE-SPARE-WHEEL-FOR-FORD-FIESTA-MK7-8-2008-2015-FREE-P-P-/161739051637?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3AFiesta&hash=item25a8661275 - slightly different as the tyre is 195/60 R15

I'm not quite sure what you are asking (if the spare wheel/tyre is 'another problem' what is the main problem???). Do you want this as a spare, or is it a 'main tyre'? Anyway

Have been in contact with local scrap yards/breakers but they either don't bother replying or they don't have what I want.

There are sites on t' internet that will allow you to query several breakers at once, 'breaker link' is, or was, one of them. Even for obscure parts, someone will usually answer, although you may have to tell them exactly what you want...

The tyres I've currently got on my Fiesta are 195/50 R15. Will I have to get a spare wheel with the tyre being the exact same size etc as what I've got now? (although a guy at the AA said I should be fine with a 14" tyre).

The easiest is to get exactly what you've got now. Failing that, you need the same bolt pattern (natch), close to the same rolling radius and roughly the same ET and pan dimension. For the pan, they are frequently in half inch increments, so you probably won't have difficulty finding exactly the same thing. ET could be anything, and while exactly the same as standard is the obvious thing to go for, it probably isn't a disaster if it is a mm or two off, or if it is one of the other wheel options for the same vehicle.

There are sites on t' internet where you can check wheel/tyre dimensions, and the rolling radius should be very similar.

For a main tyre you'd want roughly the same tyre width as the other tyres.

Whether it is 14" or not is probably less important than the other dimensions, but you could still get it wrong with a 15" tyre.

When my tyre on my Fiesta got a nasty puncture (huge rupture in the sidewall) and mine didn't come with a spare, instead came with one of those kind of crappy puncture repair kits.

Incidentally I have the exact same tyre size as yours, 195/50 R15 [MK7 Fiesta], my dad's spare wheel on his MK6 fiesta was a 14" 175 if my memory serves me correctly, and it fit quite well as a temporary solution.

A 14" will definitely fit fine assuming the "hub" (not sure what the true name is) where the wheel nuts align are the same (i.e car has 5 bolts and tyre has 5 bolt slots, i've seen older ones which have 4 bolts on the wheel - obviously not going to fit).

I now have a whole new proper wheel in the boot and not just a repair kit!

Cheers for the help and advice. Think I may just get a 15" just to be on the safe side.

On a similar matter though, this happened when my Fiesta was being serviced earlier...

The last time the rear tyres were changed/rear wheels taken off, someone overtightened them by a long way when they put them back on.

Finally managed to get one via Breakerlink from 'Ford Bits'. Although I was told the tyre tread was 'above 5mm', its actually more like 3mm. Was absolutely filthy too (they could've at least hosed it down first).

Good job I'm only using it as a spare.

£54 including delivery. Bit more than I would have liked. Did get a cheaper quote off someone else but there was a 'telling' review of their business on yell.com!
