GingerFlame
How much oil was already in it? Or did you do a full change?

madmole
Big or small end gone? sounds pretty terminal. Was knocking high ping or low thump? Did oil pressure light come on?
fookedfocus
More like a cable tie in a fan got faster with revs oil light came on when i turned sharp
mjt
As the oil capacity of the engine is 4.25 litres that means it must have virtually run dry of oil which poses the question of how you came to let it get in that state? Unless you have a catastrophic oil leak or it's burning vast quantities you shouldn't have lost 4 litres in a normal service interval. How long since it was serviced? Have you ever checked the dipstick? If it really needed that quantity of oil it's pretty well certain you've trashed the engine.
madmole
Top end probably gone then, minimum of rebore, new pistons, rings, con rods, crankshaft bearings etc, so probably game over Best case, you dropped a valve due to no hydraulic lift, ticking is piston hitting what's left of valve, Rebore, piston and rings all round Engines do not tolerate a lack of oil Recon engine would be cheaper me thinks Its why I have added oil pressure, and temp senders. The Mk 3 also has an oil level warning sensor and you can have almost no oil in the system but the pressure is still good so the light stays off
fookedfocus
How can i check topend ? Seems like maybe an electrical fault ? Fuel pump heard but no action from starter Like something is stopping current maybe
GingerFlame
How can i check topend ? Seems like maybe an electrical fault ? Fuel pump heard but no action from starter Like something is stopping current maybe Or the engine is seized
fookedfocus
But i can push it in first gear would i be able to do that if it was seized ?
GingerFlame
Possibly depending on how badly seized.. Have you tried turning it over alot with the starter working & then it's stopped working?
madmole
Possibly, Its a low gear and you get a good mechanical advantage When the battery is charged, try to start it. Does it turn over and not start? or does it not turn over at all?
fookedfocus
Wont turn over when key is turned starter moves about 20mm once thats all it does
madmole
Engine seized then. Too much friction for starter to turn, Looks like game over I'm afraid
