Mk6 1.4 Judders When Pull Away (semi Auto Box) In Auto Mode.

As title suggests. I have a 2003 semi auto fiesta with 72600. I have noticed when pulling away in auto mode the car judders four or five times when pulling away under a moderate throttle level. On a light throttle pull away wi don't get anything and also if I'm in manual mode I don't get hardly any knocking/juddering.

Any ideas and thoughts. I have heard that these gearboxes can be harsh on clutches and they don't last as long as a clutch used in a manual version. I think maybe the clutch has maybe worn out unevenly perhaps.

Other driving it works great through all five gears up and down and in kick down plus in manual mode.

Could it be possibly be bushing?

I can't find much information but all I know is not many people want to touch the boxes because of the problems but if its a clutch then it can't be that bad?

Sounds like the clutch has worn, mileage is about right.

Have you tried a hard reset? Its the same system as the EGS in Citroen, every now and again they need a reset, from a standstill and neutral pull away at full throttle up to 3rd gear, make sure you push the throttle past the kickdown stop, as it will go a fraction futher, I had to do this a few times in mine, it more often than not sorts it out, make sure you have a good clear road of course

A hard reset? How would I go about doing that? I'm replacing the battery so will that class as a hard reset if I left the car with no power for about ten minutes? I was also told it could the tourque converter?

It does not have a torque converter, it is basically a manual gearbox with a clutch, but with an electric box to do the changing and clutch, from a standstill start engine, select auto, then press the accelerator down hard past the kickdown stop until you are in 3rd gear, you may need to push the throttle sideways slightly with your foot to get past the stopper, this will reset the clutch position, but will probably be due a clutch soon if most of the miles are town driving

So flooring it to third will revert the the clutch back to its original position supposedly? Well I'm going to change the battery over today. can't see that's goin g to make a difference if this also resets the car. Might make it run better.

So this type of auto box is just an automated manual with all Manuka bits apart from a box which does the changing for you. So a normal auto box in other cars have torque converters then?

I'd imagine it will need a clutch at some point. I think I'll wait for that to come a lot closer to failing as its just judering right now and not slipping. The revs don't increase when juders unlike a slipping clutch would so its not that worn.

I don't know what driving history it has but we have got this as a run around for shopping, dog walking and the likes. Saves my diesel then :).
