ipete_c
Hi guys, I've been searching for an answer to this but cant seem to get anywhere. Does anyone know how to reprogramme the key fob for a push button start Mk4 Mondeo? The fob will start the car, I just cant use the buttons to open or close the doors. It was warning of a low battery, but I've since replaced the battery. This is on a 57 plate Mondeo Titanium X. The normal key reprogramming trick of turning the key in the ignition so many times in 6 seconds wont work, as there's no ignition. The failsafe involves inserting the fob into where the ignition would be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Pete
jeebowhite
try inserting and removing the fob into where it would otherwise go 6 or 7 times. alternatively I cant remember if your meant to just tap the go button the same number of times... iantt
You say the fob starts the car, then you say theres no ign, ? Can you clarify what you mean
iantt
Is the battery in the right way round, or possibly have a duff new battery? Does happen
MONDEO TXS 2.2
Think the OP means there's no ignition switch / key barrel as it's keyless start.
iantt
Oh, push button start without foot on clutch gives ign only to enter programming
ipete_c
You say the fob starts the car, then you say theres no ign, ? Can you clarify what you mean Sorry if I wasn't clear. The key fob starts the car, i.e. there's ignition, but there's no ignition barrel as there would be if there were a key. Its just a hole for the fob to be inserted into (similar to BMWs if I recall correctly) Is the battery in the right way round, or possibly have a duff new battery? Does happen Yes, the battery is the correct way around and it works in the other remote that I have. The faulty fob also no longer advises me that there's a low battery on the dashboard. ipete_c
Thanks for the responses guys. Wasn't sure about tapping the start button, but it seems to make sense. Will give it a go and let you know the outcome.
jeebowhite
as has been said, if you dont have the foot on the clutch it should just put it to accessory mode.
ipete_c
Small update. Repeatedly pressing the start button doesn't seem to do anything. Pushing the fob in and out of the port didn't do anything either. The car still starts with the duff fob. However, while inside the car, I can use the duff fob to lock and unlock the doors. When I get out, the remote no longer operates the doors.
jeebowhite
Sounds like it's got a weak signal so no need for reprogramming. Check there are no wires blocking the signal from the receiver in the roof area.
ipete_c
That's my suspicion too. Looks like the remote itself has failed, as the other remote I have opens and locks the car without issue. Will get in touch with a local auto locksmith who has helped in the past to obtain a replacement. Thanks for the help.
jeebowhite
No worries, the transponder is easy enough to replace bit without the programming side of it that makes it harder
ponsaloti
Just to clarify. If the battery in the key was bad , the car wont start. If the battery was missing, the car wont start. The car needs to see a proximity signal from the key (this isn't the same as the remote signal). Therefore, the battery is good. The remote on these are programmed into the vehicle at the same time as the key (chip) is programmed. My advice is get the remote tested to see if its sending a signal. 10sec job and we don't charge for this. If it's sending a remote signal, get the remote programmed back in. If the remote isn't sending a signal, get a new key.
ipete_c
Thanks for the advice. Have mentioned this to the auto locksmith and he's going to test the remote before we do anything else.
