Engine Systems Warning Light

Every now and then this red cog with an exclamation mark lights up on the dashboard when i turn on the engine and then stays on until engine is turned off, but then the next time i start it there is no light. This light never turns on when the car is running always on initial start up.

I believe the light is supposed to be engine systems or powertrain failure but there is no loss of power and the car seems to be working fine but i am wondering if it is a bad idea to ignore this as i have a 200 mile journey next weekend.

Thanks

the LX model does not have a warning light so its displayed with a cog ! on the clocks.

you need to plug in a code reader and see what the code is

It could be anything from a sensor to a wiring fault, but I would agree - get a code reader! click on "my guides" in my signature as I did a writeup on the best code readers to use, full detail - if you get them delivered quick you can diagnose and either repair yourself in preperation, or decide to call on a garage, otherwise you will be paying diagnostic fees straight away.
