Adrian Flux Price Joke

guys,

I did a few comparison quotes and AF came out top each time and I remembered that they offered a 15% discount so duly rang them up. Spoke to Melissa's who passed me onto Toby who then went through all the questions and an hour into the call came back with a quote that was 15% HIGHER than the online quotes!!!

I queried this with Toby and all he could say was:

the online system does not ask the same questions - bullpoo as it did

I have carried out 20 odd quotes and it takes the highest mileage I've input - bullpoo, I had decreased from 8500miles to 6000miles

I said there could be a remap to increase the mpg but figures would go from 115bhp to 120bhp - he said he'll put in upto 20% taking it to 135bhp as that didn't matter - bullpoo - it must have made a difference

so, after wasting my breath and feeling that AF are misquoting me and mis-selling the policy I decided to stick with my current insurer who said they are willing to take on any bhp increase, all my mods and lowering my suspension unto 50mm and even brought the price down from £328 to £264!!!

Dan@AdrianFlux - shame fella, I really thought you guys could have done me a good deal but I wasted over an hour talking to 3 reps.

I hope you don't mind me asking, which insurer are you with?

Aviva insurance in Ireland today announced "Moving Forward" they wont be insuring older cars anymore such as 1999 Ford Focus or

Basically anything prior to the era of ESP and ABS,

I asked them on Twitter "is it because old fords never die, they only get faster"

I'm still awaiting there response on this very valid point.

Ford insurance wont do mods, so was forced to shop about. Ended up getting a cracking deal from LV, which covered all my mods (40%chip, suspension, exhaust, alloys..etc) all for £60 cheaper than ford.

Flux advertise themselves as being a modifier friendly insurance company though....

Admiral dont but came out on top again. The woman i spoke to was from a Canadian call centre but was extremely polite and tried to do everything she could to get the best price for me - proper customer service was received, this is for the 3rd year running with them.

Each underwriter seems to have its own secret wishlist of what is their ideal customer.

You only find out if you tick all their boxes by shopping around.

AF couldn't beat my Zurich quote, like for like.

So I imagine you just didn't tick all the boxes for the underwriters that AF had available to them.

I used to be with Admiral, as they were the cheapest for me, but for the last couple of years, Zurich and RSA underwritten policies have consistently been more competitive.

Hi Sal_Sheikh,

First of all thanks for the post, feedback is always good and is taken on board.

I have spoken to Toby regarding this particular quotation and whilst I can't go into too much detail on a public forum, I can confirm the following in response to the points you raised:

Whilst the online question set does ask almost all questions, things such as the original and new BHP cannot be entered online and the rate needs to be manually calculated in circumstances where BHP is increased, hence asking you to call in.

When you quote be it online or over the phone, each quotation is stored so if you quote as an example 25,000 miles a year but try and purchase the policy on 3000 miles - there would certainly be a query from the insurer as to why you quoted so high and now need so few.

Regarding the BHP increase, as we are a modified car specialist, our schemes are very flexible with modifications so the difference in BHP from 120 to 135BHP may still be in the same pricing bracket.

I can only apologise for the way you feel however we certainly aren't misquoting or mis-selling, it is a case of us confirming we have every detail correct prior to you making a purchase (Which is why we ask you to call in rather than buying online)

If you have any further queries then please do send me a PM and I can arrange for us to give you a call to explain if needs be, however it's just a case that once confirming the details over the phone and making the corrections, unfortunately this has resulted in a price increase.

This is obviously not something we like to happen as ultimately we would love to help every client and keep everyone happy, but as we are a broker who works on behalf of over 40 underwriters, this doesn't happen every time.

Kind regards,

Dan.

Hi Dan

Thanks for your comments but you have contradicted yourself on the BHP increase:

"Whilst the online question set does ask almost all questions, things such as the original and new BHP cannot be entered online and the rate needs to be manually calculated in circumstances where BHP is increased, hence asking you to call in."

"Regarding the BHP increase, as we are a modified car specialist, our schemes are very flexible with modifications so the difference in BHP from 120 to 135BHP may still be in the same pricing bracket."

A few things to note:

a) my mileage went down from 8500 to 6000 - not up and i didnt get a quote for higher miles

b) if i took out the policy online and paid for it then i would have paid a lower premium - i do not remember any questions that had been left out online. If your online prices are a guide then why do you have the option to buy online? Would the policy then be void because a question had not been presented online for the customer to answer?

c) bhp increase - i had options from upto 10%, 25% and above 35% - as the bhp would only go up by 5 bhp i chose the lower amount but Toby insisted i go use the 25% option

d) i took of business mileage option off as i only drive to one place and not multiple but Toby advised that its only a few quid to have it on - really?

so judging by the above, i think i have been honest with my details and expected a lower quote.

All I will say is, thank goodness it was a freephone number that i rang as i would not have been happy if i had to pay for a call that lasted well over an hour.

I also tried AF for an insurance quote today and they could not come anywhere near to what I'm paying and they was not interested in trying so I found an alternative broker dial direct give them a try they where by far the cheapest and they give you breakdown and legal cover for free 👍🏻

if you have life insurance, pensions, home insurance, endowments or investments. try to find out if those companies also do car insurance too. because you are already investing in their company. they should look favourably on the amount of insurance you pay. but remember to drum it in that you have other investments with them.

aye a think that some insurance mobs at times of the year are good for certain manufacturs and put the saving on too others. seem too go up buy about 30% . i have tryed the home car and the trimming and it was more expensive. it just the mood that they seem to be in

We are very pleased with our quote from Adrian Flux for our newly acquired motorhome, they beat all the specialist motorhome insurers with the same or better cover.

I've had the same response from other insurance companies - its like they cant be bothered to even take your details and give it a go.
