retrosleeper
I am after putting a 1.6 duratec in my car in rwd form but im not really sure what the difference is between the engine codes can anybodyhelp? I know the 1.6 duratec is just a rebadged slightly updated 1.6/1.7 Zetec SE or known as the sigma engine designed by Yamaha not to beconfused with either the Zetec E or the Duratec 2.0 or bigger. What I don’t understand is in the latest variant of the 1.6 Duratec/Sigma engine is the 4 letter code attached to them and what thedifferences are? HXJA HXJB HXDA HWDA SHDA I will be fitting one with the variable cams (TIVCT) I will be using individual throttle bodies and an OMEX ECU so not fussed if the onlydifference is the way ford tune them but if its better heads or differentvalves ect I want to know this before buying one so I can get the best one forpower they all look the same from the pictures on adverts on eBay so cannot seean external difference apart from the ones with TIVCT Cheers guys for your responses
WES180
Hi Gareth. Why not go for something like a 2.0 Fiesta ST lump instead as you will end up wanting more power from the 1.6 and the ST engine starts off with 150bhp.
retrosleeper
Hi Gareth. Why not go for something like a 2.0 Fiesta ST lump instead as you will end up wanting more power from the 1.6 and the ST engine starts off with 150bhp. the 2.0 duratec will not fit without moving my cross member which i will not do. even i dry sump it it will stick out of the bonnet where as the sigma engine will fit all be it very tight. Got some friends running between 162bhp and 192bhp out of NA 1.6 sigma engine that rev reliably to 8k so thats good enough really. all else fails swap the pistons out for some custom dished ones and strap on a supercharger. Would love to use the larger duratec but it just wont fit. the problem is nobody seems to be able to tell the difference in the latest engines. I may just have to stick with the original plan and use the older Zetec SE at this rate :(
