dhr90
Not that I can see. It did in the past blow a hose and end up with coolant down in the spark plug holes, but the previous owner (my boss) got it fixed and the mechanic took the head off etc to fully dry everything out (he is overly thorough in everything so I'm sure that was properly fixed). I'd be surprised if that one event caused that much rust though. Can't see a leak either and haven't needed to top up the coolant in months. its an X-reg with 184k miles so not worth much! The exhaust shield at the front has rusted onto the bit it bolts to, but also cracked and nearly falling off. Does rain/spray not work its way in at speed? There is quite a few areas I don't dare try to remove or alter because of the very likely subsequent problems. Only paid £500 for it a couple of years ago, so its not worth putting money in to fix it up as much as I always day dream about it. Been meaning to replace the air filter but the bolts for that are seized too. One of them is so seized I broke whatever the nut is attached to so I've given up. You mean how would I do the 02 sensor? I'm not sure, it looks like it needs more than just hand turning, but there isn't much space to get a spanner in and the cable blocks a socket set. May just leave it and clear any engine codes before the MOT then cross my fingers while its tested
michaelhayler17
LOL fingers crossed!! Id say speed n weather damage on a motor with that many miles, to b honest at that price its been a bargin.
dhr90
LOL fingers crossed!! Id say speed n weather damage on a motor with that many miles, to b honest at that price its been a bargin. That it has, in terms of repairs, its cost me maybe £70. Got 12k miles out of it myself. Just can't decide whether to upgrade to something else or just keep running it as it won't depreciate any further so is kind of saving me money! Would quite like to get it to 200k I think, but that is another 2 years at what I currently am doing.
michaelhayler17
Id go for 200k! Just to say i did it, and it'd b a fittin end for the car before gettin sumit awesome (still a ford though!)
dhr90
Id go for 200k! Just to say i did it, and it'd b a fittin end for the car before gettin sumit awesome (still a ford though!) I suspect I will go for 200k and then beyond unless I end up in a well paying job. The high mileage is due to one of the previous owners commuting from Colchester to Nottingham and back every day, so I feel like it will likely be ok for a while yet if I'm not too harsh with it. Have had up to 40mpg at times which is quite good I think. Can't decide what the next car will be though! Quite like the mk3 Focus in both Titanium and ST specs, but also a 2010 Civic Type R. Have a soft spot for an MX5 too. But none perfectly fit the bill (Focus comes very close, but what I want isn't yet within budget).
michaelhayler17
40mpg is brilliant imo, but thats cause im stuck around 31 (lots of short trips dont help) but long blasts are better for cars anyway. Just keep pluggin it till the one u want comes along. Id happily have a titanium focus, but itd have to have the creature comforts i want lol. Not sayin i would say no to n ST if it were sat there neither... lol! :)
dhr90
This the rusty water pump. Debating whether to take bets on how deep that rust goes, although finding out and fitting a new pump might just kill it from shock 😂
michaelhayler17
Ha lol!! I agree with u, problem u have when u change things. Did excatly that to my old old escort (changed the water pump) filled it with water n blew the head gasket!
