Peter4001
I have a rattle from the left side of the engine, I removed the auxilary belt that ran round the alternator, AC pump etc and started the car and the rattling had gone. I replaced the AC pump thinking that it was causing the rattle as it was a little lose on the pulley but it was not that. someone said that it could be the crankshaft pulley but after removing the auxilary belt I am not sure; the only other thing that comes to mind is the tensioner but that was replaced last year. Can anyone help please; thanks
jeebowhite
I think the tensioner is probably the best bet. Try spinning and moving it by hand and see if you can get any noise from it!
Peter4001
Got it sorted; it was the crankshaft pulley; now I have developed another rattle and it could be the tensioner or air con pump; my son fitted a second hand air con pump a couple of days ago and it seemed in good condition; I will go with the tensioner this time its the cheaper option; a new air con pump is in the region of £260 and up; can't afford that. jeebowhite
Yeah simple can often be best, but I like you thought the shaft pulley was elsewhere!
