When I select instantaneous fuel consumption on the trip computer the readings jump about so wildly as to be completely unuseable, even when I am cruising at a constant speed. Is this normal behaviour or do I have a problem?
Since these instantaneous figures are presumably also used to calculate the average consumption will this also be unreliable?

Thanks Tony, that's put my mind at rest.
Actually the average trip reading turns out to be about 2-3mpg optimistic when compared with a brim-to-brim fuel calculation.
