Travelpilot Fx Software Update

I recently had a problem with my 2009 travelpilot fx headunit (non touchscreen) not turning on with a black screen and running the battery down over the period of 4 days.

There is a good post about units with an extending warranty from Ford but unfortunately mine wasn't one of them.

After having the unit disconnected for several days, it sudden it turned back on and I could get to the software service screen and it was running 0636_080814 (14th Aug 2008-the code is backwards I believe). But the can-bus steering wheel controls wouldn't work and it would occasionally not work when the car was started.

You get to the menu by holding "Set and Nav" buttons at the same time, which gives a load of service options.

After another week suddenly the head unit now wouldn't turn off even with the key out and car locked and the power switch did nothing. I checked the software version again and it read SW_Main No software.

I found on a Dutch forum Travelpilot fx v4.1 firmware and instructions to burn to a cd and then updated the firmware, which looks like it works fine, but doesn't update the software version. I now believe you need to update from 0636 in stages to the most recent which I don't have.

Can anyone tell me where to find any of the firmware discs to see if reflashing the head unit works, or if you have a Ford CD in the Hertfordshire or Essex area that I can see if works as I only have the original SD card and bought a European map card.

Ford dealers said they had never heard of the problem and they didn't have any firmware disc like the forums say are available. But I could buy another head unit at £1500 plus fitting.
