M's ECO Focus
We have a 2013 Focus Titanium X which has given a flashing RED warning light between the Fuel and Temp gauges accompanied by the engine cooling fan running and the engine smelling very hot. The handbook says that this light is a Message Indicator and will be accompanied by a Message in the display screen and can be amber or red. Does not say if flashing or steady ? We did not notice a message but assume that it would have been associated with engine temperature as the fan continued running even after the ignition switched off and the car locked. The car was left for 20mins and then all was normal, no light or running fan. We have seen reports of ECO Boost overheating and causes are documented. However we checked coolant and oil levels as normal with no other obvious signs to cause this problem. Car had not been hard driven or for a long journey. Sorry for the length of this but has anyone else witnessed a similar scenario. Thanks.
alexp999
Have you checked to see what coolant hose type yours has and if it is due a recall?
M's ECO Focus
Alex, thank you for your reply. Yes I have checked with my local Ford Dealer and my car has had the hose replaced under the recall. That is the small hose from expansion tank to radiator. I am waiting until Monday to check with ford technical to see what messages should be displayed with the Red / Amber Message Light either flashing or steady. I will post my findings here. I am also investigating the Active Grille Shutter operation because if that fails and air is prevented from passing through the radiator an overheat could result. David.
