Red Door Light

I drive a 2012 (61) titanium and there's a red light lens on the outside edge of the interior of the front doors but it's never illuminated on either side. I'm guessing this isn't normal and likely just needs a bulb - anyone any tips on how to go about this? Ta.

I have just got a similar car and was told that these are just reflectors.

There's a guide on here somewhere that shows how to add small leds in there. Looks good too.

EDIT: It's on JW1982's build thread.

They are supposed to be just reflectors but as kpg mentioned you could do a mod to light them up as JW1982 has.

The LED lights are connected to the puddle light outputs of the door modules. This will only work if the car already has puddle lights in the mirrors or if the car has door modules which support the puddle light function.

The LED lights light up if the car is unlocked or one of the doors is open. I made a T-harness to connect the LED lights between the door modules and the puddle light wiring. This way the wiring of the car will still be original and this modification can be undone easily if necessary.

If you want to do this modification make sure to use red LED lights. If you use white LED lights the light output will most likely be pink.

Is there any easy way of telling wether my car has the loom/wiring for puddle lights, and then I can do this nice little mod. Looks a great Job you have done!!!

Wether the door modules do or do not support the puddle light function can only be determined by the part number of the modules. If the door modules do support this function the puddle light output needs to be activated in the Central Car Configuration of the BCM.

Hi JW1982.

Old thread, I know. 😆
Can you elaborate, which wires out of the door module, is for the puddle light? I also want to put LED's in my door reflexes, and I believe that this will be the best wiring option.
Can you just get the positive wire from the door module, and the find ground near the reflex?

Thank you and regards.

Am just to do this nice wee upgrade, if you have puddle lights then I'll identify what wires are what for power.

Hi Kev.

Much appreciated!

I do have the puddle lights, so a pointer to the wires would be nice. 🙂

Henrik, The wire colours for both puddle lamps are different, they are Brown with Yellow Trace and the ground is Green with Blue trace for Passenger door, the drivers door is Violet with Green Trace, you will need to search for the ground as the wire colour according to the schematics are the same colour 🤦‍♂️

I would test first before committing to splicing wires etc.
