What Have I Purchased? Clutch Issues..

Hi,

So, two weeks ago I purchased an 11 plate 1.6tdci. Everything seemed OK to start with, but on the last couple of longer trips where there is some stop start traffic I'm getting a squeal/squeak noise from what appears to be the clutch. It will pull away in 3rd, so not thinking the plate directly, but beginning to seriously regret buying it. Here is a you tube clip that you can hopefully hear it. Thoughts? I've emailed the dealer this morning, but I hate conflict and I'm not expecting it to go well.

Cheers

You have rights under the Sale of Goods should the dealer you bought it from prove to be unhelpful and presumably you had

some form of warranty. Let us know the dealer's response and don't worry too much about conflict. it hasn't hopefully reachedthat point yet

Sounds a bit like vibration maybe something is loose around that area ? Could be something and nothing!

My 12 plate 1.6tdci made exactly the same noise when it was warmed up and under load, pulling away uphill for example.

I took mine back to ford and they put a new clutch in it under warranty. This was August last year. Only problem is it's now started to do it again.

all you can do us take it in and hope they are a decent outfit.

Good luck.

Thank you for the feedback. The dealer did come back to me, and although I still have my doubts, the car is going back to them tomorrow. Hoping for a positive outcome. I'll keep people posted.

What was the outcome? I've got a 2011 1.6tdci which does this under load and now my car smells clutchy whenever I park up, despite it not slipping when I'm driving

It's currently back with the dealer that I got it from. Hopefully being sorted as we speak. I'll update once I get it back.

I have the same problem with my 1.6 ecoboost 150 petrol. I had a new clutch under warranty at 13k miles because it juddered but the replacement makes the low pitched grone when under load; I believe it's called clutch whoop.

I understand that the noise shouldn't do any harm (please don't take my word for it!) but I agree it's annoying. If you're under warranty it's worth a shot getting it replaced.

Mk3 focus' are notorious for clutch issues it seems. It was on the programme "Don't get mad get Dom" a while back reporting it on 1.6 tdci and 1.0 ecoboost!

So, to close this thread off from my viewpoint. Had the clutch, release bearing flywheel & slave cylinder replaced and it it much better now. I had to pay for some of the parts, but better than paying for all of them. The Quick clear windscreen wasn't working properly either, so got that replaced too. Still got a belt / pulley chirp noise, but that's for another day/thread.

Start with a small engine you get a small clutch I'm betting all finger things on the pressure plate have burnt out, no fix and no driver error just !Removed!. Same problem with 1.3 m-jet fiat crap.
