1.25 Fiesta Zetec questions.

Hi All

I have just bought a 1.25 Zetec for my wife and I'm quite impressed with it, but have a couple of questions for anyone that knows these cars please:

Firstly, the car has now done about 150 miles but seems not to rev very cleanly. It feels like it is holding back the whole time. In fact, when you take your foot off the accelerator it seems to speed up ever so slightly. Is this because the car is new?

Secondly, we seem to be having some issues with the capless refuelling. The petrol pump keeps switching off. I have read on the Internet that not putting the nozzle all the way in should help - but we have tried that and it still shuts off every few seconds. There is a notable escape (or sucking) of air when the nozzle it put into the filler too.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Hello and welcome to the club!

I cant help you with question 1, but i think i can with number 2 :)

When i refill i make sure the pump is as far in as possible and havent had any problems as of yet. Also i think the noise you are talking about when you put the nozzle in the car is just the pressure of the tank escaping, get it on my car as the car has been running for a little while.

Hope this helps,

Ben

My zetec s was like yours to begin with, get some miles on and it will free up the tightness, don't expect too much with it being a small engine. My car was allot more responsive after the first service too. When filling the car up just turn the nozzle till it is ok filling up. :)

had the same thing with my 1.25 the first 300 km,when it had about 700 km,got it to the dyno to measure the performance, got it to really high revs :) and after that it accelerated like normal, that s the point, when the car reaches 1500 km on the clock hammer it down, accelerate hard, that should "air out" the engine, and it should be normal

Having a few problems filling up mine too - only had to do it twice so far - I guess it is going to be one of those things that you just need to learn the nack and then we'll be fine

i know i shouldnt, but it was for a really short time, just for the dyno measurement, the first time i put it through its paces was after passing 1000 miles, before that i never pushed it above 3000rpm

Don't labour it or rev beyond 3000rpm until over 1000 miles, then take it to 3500rpm after getting it hot, for a brief blast on country roads, every day. After a couple of weeks of 3500 blasts, stretch it to 4000rpm. After 1500miles, treat it as run-in, but only when hot. Even after 4000 miles my Fiesta still needs to be hot to rev well. Modern oils are so good, that they slow down the freeing-off process, so some engines have special light-oil in them for the first year, so don't treat it to very special oil at the first opportunity.

right,i forgot to mention that you should never rev it when the car is cold,no matter how much miles it has on the clock....
