Key-less Entry Security

All being well should get my new fiesta beginning of November. unfortunately I hear that security with this system is poor with a thief able to break in to the car and bypass the security in under 15 seconds with a laptop. and drive off with the car. what have people done to beef up security. don't really want to go down the route of wheel clamps steering locks and the like. Are there any after-market alarm systems on the market that people can recommend that ideally work via the car fob that would make it hard to nick in this way?

Solder an ATX power socket (maplins)male/female inline so you can remove the OBD port, or place switches on Hi / Low Can and +12v wires back under dash. Unfortunately the wiring is not long enough to just hide. Must be handy with a soldering iron.

OBD port fuse pull could be a good option. Does it stop fault codes being registered or any other negatives of pulling the fuse out. any body fitted an up rated alarm system or is that considered OTT

Pulling the OBD port fuse simply disables the port.

Nothing is OTT when it comes to protecting your car against thieving scum

anti personel mine under the seat

remove the starter motor every time you leave the car parked

remove the steering wheel

or a good old fashioned trunk monkey

just as an aside, can keyless cars be locked with a regular key? would it override the keyless aspect of the car? or is there a dead lock function available?

A strategically placed switch might be an idea, if the wires were accessible, in series with the start button might work. Or maybe one in series with the fuel pump, or the starter relay coil or..........

There is a after market alarm system which works with the car's supplied key fob. It is the Cobra A4615. I had it fitted to my 2014 Titanium X and it ticks all the boxes. It updates the supplied alarm by providing Ultrasonics (interior sensors) but more importantly provides an anti theft via key cloning/RF key blocking device. I had the device which is certified Thatcham 2-1 supplied and fitted by a local car electronics/audio specialist. If you want more details Google. The cost of the alarm is around £289 and fitting between £100 and £200 so it is worth shopping round.

remove the steering wheel

That's sometimes not as daft as it sounds. When I was young, at uni, one of my mates had an Austin Champ jeep. The steering wheel was held on with a wing-nut, he always used to take it with him when he parked it!

It's crazy going to the bother of fitting a hasp and not going the extra mile and having it painted yellow. The paint could make the difference between the job looking like a DIY job and a professional job. Failing that, a banana skin wrapped around the hasp probably wouldn't look out of place.
