Tom123
Hi, I have a 2002, 1.8 mondeo and yesterday I tried starting the car but it wouldn't start, it just kept ticking over. I've only had the car a couple of days and it has just passed MOT. The car didn't start first time on a couple of occasions over the first two days I have had it (Has apparently been sitting for a while with last owner). I have now replaced the battery even though the one in the car said it had a full charge. I have also replaced all four spark plugs. I did find oil in two of them and tried by best to clean it out as a temporary measure. The car still wouldn't start so I left it and a couple of hours later tried starting it again and it started. However when I was driving it, it was cutting out when I was breaking/lifting off the accelerator. Any thoughts on what the problem is? Any help is greatly appreciated. ppeter7
Hi and welcome theres 2 answers, 1} You said oil was around the top of 2 spark plugs??-Sign of camcover gasket leaking = Cheap fix 2) Stalling at lights ??-Get some carb cleaner or brake disc cleaner and a rag and clean inside throttle body around the butterfly flap. Check the stop screw isnt to far screwd in so that its not ticking over. thats on throttle body.
