Fastlife91
I drive a mk2 focus sport 1.8 diesel. I filled my tank and got 430 miles, some motorway driving but mainly urban. is that okay mileage from a full tank of diesel ? I filled my car again last week, drove 200 miles on the motorway and 200 miles around town , at 400 miles my fuel light came on. I achieved more miles the week before despite driving much less on the motorway which I don't understand, surely my mpg should be better driving on the motorway? the written mpg statistics for my car are Urban mpg 39.2 mpg Extra Urban mpg 64.2 mpg Average mpg 52.3 mpg and the price of diesel fuel lately is around £1.07 per litre Hopefully my fuel economy should continue to improve when the problems with My MAF sensor and wiring are finally solved. Also what fuel economy are you achieving and do you drive a petrol or a diesel car ? can you please tell me if my fuel economy seems okay and if it is correct with the online statistics ? thank you
Ryan_Tango
What size tank do you have? I get around 580 miles to 650 miles from my Focus Diesel 52 litre tank size (Its in the 50's not 100%) Motorway driving if you go 80 you lose a lot of MPG so stick to 65-70 (steady away on the throttle) I'm quite good at anticipating what's next so never really have to slow down just speed back up which I believe also helps. (and please, what did you mean something is in the 50's not 100 % ? ) what are the written mpg statistics for your car ? Yup, I'm aware about driving too fast on the motorway can decrease economy, I was doing 80 mph mostly the other day on the motorway, but even so I should have gotten more than 400 from the combined 200 motorway and 200 miles urban. I got 430 the week before with mostly urban driving. I need to get the problem with my MAF wiring sorted and change the glowplugs, hopefully then it'll be better. thanks
MONDEO TXS 2.2
Between 600 & 650 on a full tank in the TXS
Ryan_Tango
I was talking about my tank being in the 50 litres area not exactly sure but I can assume your tank is same as mine, written stats I only know about extra urban which is supposed to be 83MPG. I do about 20 miles on the motorway every single day and 7 miles on the normal roads everyday (driving at 21:45PM, and on way home at 06:00AM) so as you can imagine I don't really see much traffic at all, which will help. I would have thought you'd get about 500 miles from your tank, hopefully once you get her fixed up you'll be okay.

Thank you, I was just a little confused earlier, Yeah, I hope my fuel economy increases as well once my car is fixed. extra urban for my type of car is about 62 mpg think. simcor
Book figures for my car: Urban 39.2 Non urban 60.1 Total 50.4 53 litre tank I average anywhere between 43-49 MPG usually it really depends on how many DPF regenerations happen and do not complete. Usually it is around mid forties but does on occasion drop a bit lower, especially if I am doing a lot of short stop start trips, short trips on a cold diesel engine kill the MPG figure. Theoretically on a 53 litre tank assuming I used every drop of fuel of an average of 47MPG then I should hit a tad over 550 miles. 50MPG would be 588 miles on a full tank. 51MPG would just break 600 miles to a full tank. Based on 1.06 per litre the price I usually pay it would take £56 odd to fill my tank from completely empty.
Captain Haddock
2011 Focus 1.6TDCi Sport 53L tank Trip meter reports about 5MPG to 8MPG *high* and range of 672miles Real average MPG = 64.5 Real range = 720miles(ish)
jeebowhite
wish I could get that sort of mileage, but I drive a bigger heavier car! I get about 650 - 700 out of a 70 litre tank...
Preecematt
Hi, I get about 350-400 miles from my tank & that's a petrol 1.6 turbo but I'm only doing about 12 miles a day between 5am & 11pm for work so I don't really know what traffic is. My average mpg is 36.7 and apparently my average speed is 33 apparently, which is definitely a lie lol. Book figures for my car are a lot more than I'm getting(can't remember them) but Ford apparently, rent a high altitude test track and put special tyres on and make the car effectively a race car(stripping things it doesn't need etc) to test the mpg of their cars. So I don't believe book figures anyway. My old car was a 1.8 Astra and that would get 400 miles on a tank and that was modified, my all time record is 530 miles off one tank in that car. chris f
Like Jeebowhite, I also have 70 ltr tank, in my mondeo estate. 15 mile run to work 9 on motorway, driving in eco way could get 750+ out of tank (56mph on motorway) Normal 650/700 Work style driving 500/550. (Trained to btec level 3 emergency response blue light) My old cmax 1.8 petrol 400miles max in Sunday grandad mode Not as much fun when eco driving so now mix styles and happily getting 600/650.

Hi How much does it cost you to fill your tank mate ? Thank you
chris f
The cost of a refill is between £65-£85, I only fill up once a month day after pay day, so depends on how many shifts I have had in the month with taking AL and how they fell as 4 on 4 off shift patten. As some months I have got 1/4 tank left overs the light has just come on and range showing 90/110 miles left, have been lucky in the fact never really had less than range of 70 left. I would not go bellow this as in my thinking that is about 1 gallon left so any lower and at risk of gunk in bottom of tank being collected in to fuel lines.
jeebowhite
Like Chris it's about that region my last tank was about 68 pounds. Through summer I topped up twice a month, but I have a 30 mile drive where it's about 10 or 20 on the motorway dependant on the route. Dales
I get better mpg with the Mondeo than what I did with the Focus. Mondeo is 2.2 diesel on a 55 plate, Focus was a 1.8 diesel on a 57 plate. I think the Focus was an average of 39mpg and the Mondeo is average of about 42mpg. Where as the ST I only average between 19 and 22mpg. Fuel economy will drop through the winter months too though.
jeebowhite
I'm already seeing the drop several times during summer I would dip as low as 700 or as high as 850, the last few weeks it's averaging 650 to 700,thats before the cold stuff comes Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
