Clicking Noise Coming From Fusebox Area When Wipers Are On

So I've been noticing a clicking noise coming on when the wipers are on intermittent mode (front and rear both). As soon as they start moving, I can hear a clicking sound from the fusebox area in the passenger footwell. I'm not sure if this has always been the case or has something to do with the piggyback fuse I attached in slot 100 for the dashcam I installed a few weeks ago.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ah cool, thanks. I guess I must have had my music turned down a bit lately to have noticed it :)

+1

I've removed my complete rear wiper and motor,

Relay still clicks in the fusboard as it sends spurts of electricity to the rear when turned on 😀

completely normal though.

Thanks guys.

It's just weird that I never heard the sound before.

Wonder if there's any way to quieten it?

A: switch off wipers

B: turn up the stereo

C: re-wire the system locating the relay in boot compartment. 😕

Do you have the plastic 'colander' style cover on the underside of the fusebox or the padded trim panel?

Umm... It's just the regular rectangular plastic thing I think. Can't remember if it's padded or not, it's got two rotating clips on the sides and flips down.

there's a foam pad fits underneath and to be fair it does muffler the sound from relays a bit.

Here's a picture of mine

Mine only has the colander...when did they start fitting the foam?

Its odd that the relays are quite loud in the Focus compared to a Golf or something, yet they use an artificial indicator tick that's too quiet!

Think it was standard on all mate,

Ford remove it to change pollen filter during service,

Perhaps they failed to refit yours,

I only posted up images of mine encase you wanted to use them to source one from breakers or something email them picture of the part.

I totally agree 😀

Noisey wiper relay

And

whisper quiet pre-recorded indicator sound effect of a relay

Hey Lenny

Any ideas if these can be purchased online?

Got my focus like 2 weeks ago and the clicking is driving me INSANE. Didnt have it on my previous Seat Ibiza, or the Corsa!

is there any indication for those of you with lots of knowledge.... what the name of this is/if it can be purchased from eBay etc?

First post btw, so hey all!

Thanks

Craig

Thanks a lot for fishing that out.

They can't be serious with those prices lol!

Where does one go to buy these? Ordered from Ford directly?

Personally I'd be making one out of paper mache (using a mates one as a template) and using Velcro to stick it up!

Ask them for some detailed pics of every angle and DIY it.

I did put a piece of closed cell foam on top of the fusebox cover as I had some leftover from soundproofing my car. However it looked ugly as it was right there in the footwell, and it didn't really do much to stop the noise. So I guess it needs to be a snug fitted piece of foam that does a better job sealing the gaps.
