Lost Both Xenon Headlights

Hi everyone. I have a 2004 mondeo st220 estate and my drivers headlight went about a week or so ago and the passenger one went tonight. Can anyone tell me if there is a test that I can do to see whether it's the ballasts gone or what before I go spending the money on new headlights with ballasts and igniters. Any help will be great?

Check the fuses & connections between the lights & loom.

Maybe a silly idea.. but would it be cheaper to fit an aftermarket HID Kit than to replace the OEM ballasts & ignitors (aren't they built into one unit?) ?

The fuses are OK replaced with new ones and all connections seem OK as well. Yeah the ballasts and ignitors are built into the unit.

I have bought new bulbs and still don't work. When the lights are turned on the ballasts do not make a noise like they normally do

Odd that both go so close together bulbs makes sense but not so sure about ballasts. One way to find out is pick up a used one and fit it?

I'm going to do power tests the weekend to try and narrow it down to ballasts, igniter or the actual headlight switch in the car.

Pull headlight switch out , unplug connector and bridge pins 6 and 8 on connector with ign on, see if dipped beam works,

Ok will give that a go. Are the pins the same one with the switch being an auto one?

They should be as the light sensor is the one that ultimately flicks the switch rather than you. So the electric still flows down the same pins

So can I fit a aftermarket d2s HID Kit to a manufacture factory fitted xenon lights with no modifications?
