Software Upgrades

Reading Auto Express last week, threre was a piece on a chap and his New Mondeo estate and the first x thousand miles. To sort throttle problems his ECU software was wiped and re imaged with the latest software. This solved some of his throttle issues.

This got me thinking. I have already had two software upgrades. Many may not have had any. Software upgrades are preformed to solve issues and improve mappings and control of modules. Should such upgrades not be offered as part of you ownership of a car. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

Ownership and car details are on a database, and a query would notify customer of upgrades available. This would be vai email, telephone, RSS etc. Dreaming I know, but notification to owners should be pro active not reactive.

Then I again, thinking about it, I presume this is done in the service schedule?

Hmmm, let's ask Fords head of FirmWare Design and Testing:

Awwwww, isn't that cute?? She's holding the design brief for the latest version of the Fiesta Audio System Firmware.

No ford won't offer it unless you have problem, I’m still waiting for our friend at fords to book me in to check our car for ECU firmware update. I only found out about it reading something on this forum concerning another TDCI owner who was not getting very good MPG so I contacted my friend and he said he would hook up my car and check if the system came back with a newer version.
