ZetecShearer1987
I've owned my new car for just over two weeks. In that time, its been back to Perrys Ford Alfreton as somehow they failed to spot that the electric window switch on the drivers side wasnt working at all. Now ive also had to have 2 new tyres fitted to the car as mentioned in another post as the budgets were awful, they were not able to help me with that as they said the tyres were road legal. When the new tyres were fitted, my local garage, formula one autocentres who knew ive only just purchased the car told me that the rear disks and pads were in need of changing. Disks were 9.6mm and they said they should be a minimum 11mm and the pads were very low and would need changing very soon. I did question this as ive only had the car for exactly 2 weeks and its had a full mot and service by Perrys Ford prior to purchasing. I find this quite annoying if they've passed the car off as ok when from my experience of Ford dealers they always look for extra work and any health checks they do, they normally find allsorts to change at a hefty price. So how did they miss the rear disks and pads. Anyway i rang up and spoke to the service guys who didnt seem very happy that i have questioned an issue that they said was comprehensively checked prior to being given to me. They have only agreed to look at the car on tuesday and not committed to doing any work until a ford tech guy has looked over it properly. hopefully they will change the parts that should have been done already. My understanding is that if they pass it on as ok, most people dont get these things checked out until a year later, on a service and mot, then the owner then has to fork out the extra cash. Think its unfair
iantt
actually the new brake disc thickness is 11mm and minimum thickness is 9mm so technically they are still serviceable (just by 0.6mm) minimum thickness for pad replacement is 1.5mm
Dee_82
personally, it sounds like the car was legit and road legal, if you didn't ask to have the tyres or brakes done then why would they do it? its road legal! In my mind its something I would check before signing the dotted line, if you had it checked out by the AA or did a check yourself you could have then said I want this sorted before making the deal, more often than not they will sort it unless itll cost a bomb, if they didn't do it then your within your rights to say sort it out. Chalk it up to a learning experience mate, next time you will know better
artscot79
Car was legal at the point of sale so brakes will be up to you to replace I'm afraid you may find the dealer starts to get miffed with you IDE dance and say I was wrong and apologize you may need them in the future
Dee_82
Agreed, fact is, you might not like the fact the car had items near the end of their life but you brought it in that condition and it wasn't unsafe, if there are bigger problems down the line you don't want them frustrated with you from the word go
iantt
And depends on how you drive and how many miles when those parts become unserviceable, ( worn out) esp on the rear. Still 25% serviceablity in discs, pads Im not aware of excisting thickness?
catmand00
Basically if its mot passable then it's road legal and judged as safe. Nobody expects a dealer to change every serviceable part before sale just because it's worn. If it's below safe limits then yes but otherwise that's expected tbh Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
TomsFocus
Sounds more like F1 are trying it on tbh... Budget tyres are legal unfortunately, as much as they shouldn't be. Brakes sound fine, maybe stop with the handbrake in maccys car park lol. Only issue is the window switch which isn't major and could've broken between the checks and collection - they usually break when valletters drop liquids on them (water, window cleaner etc).
Dee_82
I missed the window switch bit, its still a bit grey tho, did they knowingly sell it on broken? did it break after you bought it or before, all tricky things to prove and will be a damn site lot harder to get fixed if you try push for the other parts. But is probably worth asking the question. check all the electricals I can on the test drive, AC is usually the one they like to take the pee with tho my partners car had the window controls on her festa all backwards for some reason.
