Ford Fiesta Mk7 1.6Tdci Progress Thread

Hi all, So I've started playing with the wife's Fiesta.

Only doing small things at the minute.

So here is how she looked when we got her.

The first thing I did was to install a HID Kit into the projectors which gives much more light.

Then I did was install LED footwell lights (I also upgraded other bulbs to LED's No pics as yet)

I than fitted the Double din unit from the old car so the wife had her B/T and satnav and music etc.

IMG_1380.jpg

I then paid a visit to the scrap yard as we need a new seatbelt buckle (as the bonging was getting annoying)

IMG_1336.jpg

While there I found the factory fitted USB, so grabbed that (along with the mic)

I set about adapting the USB so it would work with the Kenwood unit. The Mic is still a WIP.

I then wanted to try and make the ambient lighting brighter but due to the LED's used this seems impossible.

IMG_1345.jpg

IMG_1347.jpg

So added my own LED strip light which made the wife very happy.

I then changed the colour of the LEDs on the top display screen, the heater panel is next on the list.

Really like what you've done with the dash. Dash mods are always a little out of the norm and youve made a good job of it. Should be pleased :)

Thanks mate, got some paint work to do on silver trim as wife wants a different colour, I also today competed the Led conversion on the heater panel and headlamp switch (pics will be added tomorrow).

How did they go? I hummed and arred about doing it to mine. The only problem is doing it now, I will have to bend and break my headunit cage. CBA with that because its a pain in the backside at the best to the time.

Make sure the misses does some of this ;) sounds like she's got you grafting!!

The Led conversion came out rather well,

Heater panel (Just need to look at the recirc button LED & also try and find a plain diffuser)

The wife quite like LED Panel being Purple tho :P

But I would like to find a plain diffuser

7.jpg

Head lamp switch (colour coded the Fog light buttons)

The wife helps when I ask her too she is good like that and not worried about getting her hands dirty.

Next on the list is window switches (just need to order some Led's for them) Steering wheel buttons (need work out how they come off.)

and to make a start on the painting she picked Ford Mercury Grey as it's close to the dash colour.

Really like this and you seem to be making a superb job of it. I was thinking about it lying in bed last night. I want to rip my fascia off on my radio anyway so might get it all done at one. There is a company in Birmingham that do the whole lot for £80 including speedo. I'm tempted. Just worried doing the speedo myself and boning it.

I did the speedo on my Astra,

I have thought of doing the speedo on the Fiesta but not spoke to the wife yet, I do prefer to get an old part so I can take it apart first just in-case I lose a part or break something.

TBH the Heater panel and headlight switch is easy to do yourself, just take your time the LED's are cheap too.

I'm going to put a how-to together as I couldn't find one.

Awesome.. I'm sure plenty of people would find it really useful including myself. Do you know what leds they take? I assume it is the same across the board.

That cluster looks amazing. Pretty bright too.

Thank's mate,

How-to is done for the heater panel http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/tutorials/article/305-fiesta-mk7-heater-panel-led-conversion/ hope it helps others.

I'll do the headlight switch another day as I don't want to take it out again until I've got a new connector (found most of the wires damaged on it).

Love the workmanship on this project mate. Attention to detail is amazing.

I am tempted to do my focus instrument cluster just like your astra one.. Is it just a matter of swapping leds with solder?

Thanks mate, yes mate here's the how-to I did for my Astra https://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-How-to-Instrument-Cluster-LED-Conversion although the Ford will be totally different it will give you an idea.

The blue is so much easier on the eyes at night.

Right yesterday I made a start on the Fascia trim had to cheat and use a heat gun to dry it quicker with it being cold.

Mid way through the prep work

after applying primer and the Ford Mercury Grey

3.jpg

4.jpg

The wife wanted it to have a sparkle so I popped down to homebase and got a can of Silver Glitter Spray Paint

Applied a couple of coats

5.jpg

6.jpg

7.jpg

I then applied a couple of coats of laquar so I know I can polish and wax it up let it dry for a couple of hours

8.jpg

Had a look this morning and it looks even better

The wife wasn't happy with the silver fascia trim so guess who had to paint it all.

She also wanted a more girly colour on the LED conversion So I found some pink LED's although they come out sodding purple (but look Pink in Pic's).

For the clear diffuser, look line for some theatre "Frost" gel. It's available in small samples but obviously at a higher price. around £35 for a huge roll

I prefer Lee gels, its what I used at work until my contract ended :(

I'm really not a fan of the Double din unit... The factory fitted radio looked right at home. didn't you consider upgrading the OEM radio & modules to higher spec ones? It's not as expensive as you may think.

Thanks Ginger flame Sorry for the delay I didn't get an email.

I'll have a look into what you suggested for the heater panel.

As for factory Navi I did think about it but new to fords so thought this would just be easier as I pulled most of it back out the Pug before the insurance company got their hands on it.

We have now sold the fiesta it was a great car but the Mrs wanted something bigger.

In the time we owned it 4yrs it needed general servicing, new front wheel bearings and injector seals.
