ayrshiredude
Has anyone had any experience with LED headlight and full beam bulbs? Interested in going for some but really not sure what is the best to get
Cookey09
I'd also be interested ive heard a few people try them but say theyre not very good because the light doesnt project...
alexp999
Afaik there are no type approved LED Bulbs so any you fit would be illegal... Better off sticking to better halogens, or as the Fiesta ST has projectors a HID Kit.
ayrshiredude
I see the new Polo has them fitted as standard on higher end models so there must be decent official ones out there
alexp999
When fitted from the factory they are LED headlights, not LED Bulbs, so the entire headlight cluster is type approved. If the LEDs stop working, there is no "bulb" to replace, you have to replace the entire cluster.
ayrshiredude
Ah ok didn't realise that. I see various bulbs on eBay, including cree ones. Would these be ok?
m1tch
Its a bit like HIDs, the headlight unit itself needs to be correctly rated for HIDs, it would be the same for LED headlights - I am guessing that this would be due to the beam pattern etc as you can't just retrofit HIDs in a halogen reflector unit legally. Personally, although LED Bulbs have come a long way since they started and some of the CREE lights are indeed very bright, I would still stick with decent Halogen bulbs (like the Osram Nightbreakers) for the main/dipped beam, but would be happy to go with LED sidelights, number plate lights etc. Not to sure if I would go with LED brakelights, although tempted to try them on this car, but for me LED sidelights, DLRs and number plates fine, LED headlights no (at the moment anyway). b1g_dav3
There are ballasted LED type headlight bulbs, they're pretty good really. Similar light to a 35W, possibly a little more, but an instant and white light without the hint of blue. Looks a little more upmarket than HID's generally without the blue tinge, problem is they get very hot (not brilliant for the Fiesta with the rubber back on the light). I had them for a while and it melted the back rubber seal so went. I plan on perhaps 3d printing a backing to then mount the kit too so the heat sink has a little more room and some breathing room but until then I'm sticking with Nightbreakers. Eatonm112
Has anyone had any experience with LED headlight and full beam bulbs? Interested in going for some but really not sure what is the best to get I have H7 LED Bulbs in my Fiesta 2015 model and they work just fine been using them for nearly 2 months without issue. The Fiesta has projector lamps but only on the dipped beam this makes all the difference with how the light is put on the road. Pic is of a projector lamp its the lens to the left. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu324/Rogue-_-Shadow/Wesley/Bulb%20Guide/Photo440.jpg Link below is to a open reflector style head lamp. If you have these and you put after market HIDs or LED Bulbs in you will have a light everywhere and youll get flashed by on coming cars as they will more than likely be getting dazzled by the light. http://www.newvehicleparts.co.uk/ford/fiesta/fordfiestamk820082013/fd3444904-headlight-black-elec-wmotor-lh?gclid=Cj0KEQiA-NqyBRC905irsrLr-LUBEiQAWJFYThOuLl47WTL2V0txXr6VoW7iLbrWDynw57-mwNPTDg8aAgX98P8HAQ
m1tch
Sounds like the LED headlight bulbs are a good option if you have the projector headlights which correctly focus any light vs the reflector headlights which are designed for 1 specific type of bulb. Better off sticking to better halogens, or as the Fiesta ST has projectors a HID kit. Random question, I've got a Titanium which has the projector headlights. I've fitted a 6000k HID Kit, would this "pass" with an MoT? I only ask because on my previous Clio, I had aftermarket "angel eye headlights" which had projector lenses - with a 6000K HID Kit (which I fitted myself), and that passed MoT each year with no issues. Numerous people in various FaceBook groups have said to me, that if you have a HID Kit fitted (even with projectors) they will fail an MoT? stevenc152
I have orderd some Philips Crystal ones (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K0DKQ4M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) I have a ton of LED's Sides fogs etc coming ill let you know how they do. I wouldnt change main headlights to anything like that because hey you need to see more than looking pretty..... Sides etc for streets doesnt really make any difference, these crystal ones are close to white LED lights from what ive been told and seen. ayrshiredude
My car has the new light unit with the LED DRL strip. I'm taking thats projector? Looking at the different bulbs there are different wattages, what would be the best?

Not true.. I have retrofitted Bixenon projectors & HIDs on my 2004 Fiesta. Another member on here followed my guide. neither of us Had any issues with MOT Or police. The only thing the car lacks is self levelling and washers, but the MOT Guidelines do NOT say they need to be fitted. They say IF they are fitted then they must work. If the beam pattern is correct then you'll have no problems If however, you were to be a chav with a corsa blinding everyone you'd have issues :)

GingerFlame
So are the ones on EBAY not safe then? Not road legal in the UK
Philf1
I have thread about these as well as I have been considering them not just bulbs but a proper kit. I've read lots and watched loads of YouTube videos from the states and most folk still rate the HIDs more than LEDs for a brighter longer range light so I think I'm going to keep mine for now Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Eatonm112
So are the ones on EBAY not safe then? They are safe in that the beam pattern is like the standard H7 bulbs that you would remove if you were to change them to the LED Bulbs I put a link up to they also draw less power than the Halogen bulbs. As mentioned they are not approved for use on UK roads but most after market parts for cars are not for public road use. I personally go the common sense route as mentioned by an other member here and that is if the beam pattern is like that of the standard bulbs just that the coverage of light is just better so oncoming traffic isn't going to get upset.

Eatonm112
But as mentioned above, people favour HIDs for brightness over LEDs.. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk I have had both and to be honest I couldn't say if one was better than the other. Once I am done with some other bits regarding engine tuning I'll throw my set of HIDs back in as I had to change them out as the bulbs were worn out, I didn't know this but HID bulbs have a limited life span the 55 watt ones I had last around 2000 hrs according to the manufacturer.
