simcor
Bought some Bosch Gigalight bulbs from Halfrauds for my car. Buy one get one free offer at £33 a bulb, so a pair for £33 basically, got them for £28 for the pair with my discount card. http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-bulbs/bosch-car-headlamp-bulb-gigalight-plus-120-477-h7-x-1 120% brighter and better night visibility and a whiter light output. I have to say I am extremely pleased with them, the light output is a lot whiter and certainly a lot brighter than standard halogen bulbs. Worth the money if a little pricey, but the buy one get one free offer makes the price a lot more bearable and the extra £5 discount with my card makes them even better value. Time see if I can them in H4 for the high beam as that would be a drastic improvement in dark lanes. £23 for H4 for high beam with discount card http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-bulbs/bosch-car-headlamp-bulb-gigalight-plus-120-472-h4-x-1 So between the dashcam and the bulbs I have already got my subscription cost back in just two purchases, one which i was already going to buy and I had a bulb out so needed one anyway, usually pay around £8 for a standard bulb from local motor factors and I always replace in pairs anyway.
bwoody
I wonder if they are much better than the Osram nightbreakers that are about £15 for two for H7's
simcor
I wonder if they are much better than the Osram nightbreakers that are about £15 for two for H7's I had Osram night breakers before a few years ago and could hardly tell the difference to standard halogen at the time, I also tried the Halfords plus x% bulbs at the time and didn't find much difference either. Maybe the fact these are whiter and brighter makes them seem so much better as I think the original night breakers if I remember were still very yellow like normal halogens at the time, I am going back a few years. Will see how these fare for longevity as that could determine how much value for money they are but I can certainly tell a big difference with these.
bwoody
Cool - I have had nightbreakers in a previous car and thought they were better than oem but still yellow as you say, saw the Bosch Gigalight bulbs on amazon for about £25 for two.
simcor
Had a quick look at nightbreakers on eBay but listing does not say whether they are filled with 100% xenon gas which these do, again maybe it spiel maybe it's correct but they are a much better improvement in my opinion.

simcor
Obviously they are not anywhere near as good as HID's will be but they are a good cheap way to be nearer to them.
bwoody
Obviously they are not anywhere near as good as HID's will be but they are a good cheap way to be nearer to them. Yeah that is what I am after, just an improvement on the standard bulbs for a reasonable amount of cash.
james_60
According to the Halfords reviews they last between 5 weeks and 2 months and are not buy one get one free so if you have 66.00 to spend lol Philips bulbs are much better :-) Jamie
simcor
I can assure you they are buy one get one free currently. As I said I will see how long they last and make a review again based on that.
simcor
A bulb is a bulb when all said and done, how long it will last can depend on a multitude of factors. I think I have changed both front dipped beam bulbs in my Focus in the year and 5 months I have owned it. So if they last about the same I will be happy.

nicima
The phillips bulbs you mention i put into my focus a few weeks back and they are brilliant!!! really white, bright and well best builds I've had in ages
GingerFlame
When fitting new bulbs, make sure not to touch the bulbs with your skin. Ive seen some 1200w & 750w bulbs blow with considerable force before. For example, 4 hours in to a sold out Ken-dodd performance, there was a huge bang & a spray of glass fell from the gantry's above and showered part of the audience! safe to say it's not a shift id like to work again - It also shattered the reflector inside the lamp. All this because someone got lazy and touched the glass
simcor
8 weeks on and still working fine, happy with them so far. Hope I have not jinxed it by saying this though lol
Cookey09
They have h7's of these? And pictures?😉
simcor
Sorry missed you reply Cookey. I never got round to taking pictures, meant to but always never found the time to do so. Well sadly I have to report one has blown tonight so 13 weeks and a bit from putting them in. I was hoping they would last as long as a standard bulb but is it the type of bulb or is it just a general failure as I have occasionally with normal bulbs. So yeah buy another or replace them again with normal cheap bulbs, that is the question.
simcor
Now down to £16 a bulb no buy one get one free offer, so still around the same price for a pair still. Think it might be a trip to halfrauds to get a couple with discount card should bring them down to £13.60 each.
Cookey09
No worries mate! Get some pictures if you can because my crystal visions are brilliant but they seemed to be drowned out in town lighting and similar... I want something that beats this... HIDS or a unbelievable H7! 😉
simcor
This is taken from my dashcam as a still shot. It is late and on a white wall well cream. They are much better down dark lanes, although they do get washed out under street lighting but you can see them on the road but I doubt a camera will pick it up. They light up the hedges on dark roads really well to be honest, that is more where they come into their own in my opinion.
simcor
Well the other bulb blew this weekend, so had to replace that one too now. I only fit them wearing nitrile gloves so I can't contaminate the bulb glass, I also only use my lights when they are needed, not using them for no reason when they are not needed. 17 weeks the second one lasted. So they seem to last 4-5 months on average for me. I bought a replacement yesterday again still at £16 with my discount card and that brings them down to £13.60 per bulb. So assuming they last 4 months per side it would cost in a year £81.60 on bulbs for these Bosch Gigalight. A standard bulb is anywhere form a few quid to around a tenner depending in where and when you have to buy it, working on around £8 a bulb for standard ones, assuming they needed changing 3 times a year also, then the cost would be £48 for the year. So for the better light output you are paying at least double the cost over a year, but as with anything the standard bulbs could last a whole year and so could the gigalight, unlikely but it could happen. biff55
the reason why high performance halogen bulbs blow after a relatively short length of time is because the gas is burnt hotter to achieve the improvements in illumination , nothing to do with whether you accidentally get greasy fingermarks on the glass , they are going to fail anyway even if you fit them wearing gloves. and not getting a minimum of 12 months usage from a lamp upgrade simply isnt practical or cost effective in my mind........
