stubbly
Hi guys, new here on the forum. I have a 2001 petrol 1.6 model, it has developed a coolant leak from the pump. The leak seems to stem from a small inspection type plate on the side of the unit, which is held in place by two 10mm bolts,(they are not loose either) the leak occurs as usual when the engine is hot, and runs down the block and off of the sump and there is a patch of coolant on the fllor come time to go home every night. It is not a major leak, but it will obviously get worse. question is, has anyone stripped one of these units down, or removed this cover before, I want to know if i am going to find a split O ring behind it, or a gasket, and if there might be a pattern gasket/O ring I can get in Halfords or somewhere. Forewarned is froearmed as they say, so I want to gather some info before I tackle it, Haynes manual says nothing about it at all, not even a picture. I have armed myself with some Loctite silver silicone gasket sealant, the type for water contact, if I have to do a patch job on it, it will be a good excuse to replace the coolant anyhow. Any knowledge you can shove my way will be much appreciated. stubbly.
