Escort -98 sloppy clutch pedal

Thursday I was driving home, after the annual vehicle inspection. I was dropping it to the 2nd gear when clutch pedal just went little sloppy. Couldn't put the 2nd gear on so had to hit the 3rd again. Tried 4th gear, but after that I would not let me drop it back to 3rd. So limped back home with 4th gear. Clutch pedal hits the floor easily and wont get back up all the way.

First thought was that clutch cable is broken. But the cable moves when pressing the clutch, and there was only this rubber part, that seemed to be broken. Cable runs near the gear box and goes through the metal plate with hole on in. (pic)

Another thought were that something is frozen, it was cold day, -30c to -33c and I drove about 45km to vehicle inspection, spent 15 minutes in warm garage and then drove another 45km back home. Something inside the clutcbox is frozen stuck?

Engine is 1.6 Zetec with 5-speed manual.

P.S: Didn't pass the inspection, nasty rusty hole under the car.. :(
