jpeck76 Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Hello Everyone, I’ve just joined this website and this is my first post (first on any website), so if I get anything wrong please accept my apologies in advance. So trying to keep this short…..I have a question I’m hoping someone may be able to answer regarding my MK2 Focus. It’s a 2006 1.6 Petrol model with the bog standard 100ps engine (not the VVT one), which I believe is a Zetec-SE or Sigma, even though it’s badged as a Duratec. The car has just done 95K, so is due a new Timing Belt at some point soon. Normally I would do these type of jobs myself (changed many a Fiesta/Escort etc in the past) but having done a bit of research it appears things aren’t the same with these newer engines and the job now involves special tools, re-timing of Camshaft pulleys and non-keyed Crank pulleys, all of which has put me off a bit. I’ve been quoted 300-500 pounds for the pleasure (Cam Belt/Tensioner/Water Pump/Aux Belt) by a few local garages, so I’ve been thinking I may wait until the Summer with the better weather and do the job my self. My concerns are that should the Cam Belt or Tensioner fail then its game over, however I’ve found quite a bit of conflicting information on the web as to weather this engine is an Interference or Non-Interference (Free-Wheeling) model. Is there anyone out there (maybe a Ford Tech), who could give a definitive answer as weather my Pistons and Valves are going to get intimate should the worst happen? Tools cost me a total of £60. cmozzer Posted February 14, 2016 Share Posted February 14, 2016 just had my belt and pulleys done at a cost of £250 all in . mines a 1.6 petrol lx , apparently water pump aint driven by belt so if it aint leaking leave alone , might save you a few quid . jpeck76 Posted February 14, 2016 Author Share Posted February 14, 2016 Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll let the local garage do it for piece of mind, 300 pounds for everything is probably the going rate, it's certainly much cheaper than a new engine if something does fail and to be honest I don't fancy laying on the driveway with a set of axle stands.
