mikedu
First time poster here, so.. hello all! I've recently bought a 2009 Fiesta Zetec, am loving it so far. However it came with tinted rear screen and rear side windows (3 door). I've found I'm not massively into it (car was a good price so went for it despite this). So I have a bit of a newbie question here... can the tinting be removed? If so, is this done via a complete window replacement or is it film that can be stripped off? Any ideas on how much something like that would cost? Thanks for any help!
MrJamesMcManus
Hi Mike, Welcome :) It would depend if they are factory fitted tints, meaning they were fitted when the car was built. If this is the case them i'm not sure if it can be removed. If the tints were done after then you would probably be able to remove it yourself with a heat gun and then peeling off. YouTube it to see if there are any videos but i would find out if they were factory fitted first
bwoody
Hi Mike, welcome to the site. As James said I am pretty sure factory tints are are actually tinted glass ( I might be wrong ) and after market window tinting is done with a tinted film. Factory tints would mean new windows and after market tints should be removable as its just a film stuck to the glass. I personally really like the tints on the 3 door Zetec S, I think it finishes the car off well and as a bonus means glare from headlights in the rear view mirror is vastly reduced :)
mikedu
Hey guys, thanks for the fast replies! I believe it's factory fitted, so maybe something I just have to get used to. (I think it looks great from the outside, but just.. different when driving inside :)). You wouldn't happen to have any ideas how much a rear window replacement would generally cost for these cars by chance? Just to gauge whether it's something to consider or not. Thanks again! bwoody
I am afraid I have no idea on window costs, but I would have thought a few hundred easy. I would live with it for a while and you will probably find you forget all about it and get used to it. Bonus that you like how it looks from the outside! mikedu
Yeah I was thinking it'd be something like that. Yup that make sense. Thanks for the help, appreciate it!
Zico
Couldn't you check Ford ETIS to see if the glass is factory tinted?
GingerFlame
Factory fitted Ford tint has a slight green tint to it, only noticable if you hold white paper behind it www.yorkshiredetailing.co.uk - approved resellers of the Highest quality detailing & Valeting supplies
mikedu
Hmm seems a little confusing as when I look at the back window, you can see a "film" over the inner side of the window, which is not cut perfectly to fit the window in some areas.. so this kind of looks like tinted film. However, looking at the ford ETIS it says "With tinted glass all round"?

The car possibly has 35% factory tint, with an aftermarket tint applied over the top of it to make it darker www.yorkshiredetailing.co.uk - approved resellers of the Highest quality detailing & Valeting supplies
mikedu
Ahhh right ok, that makes sense. I'll probably look into getting the film removed then. Thanks again for your help all!
