Danerel
Hey, i am going to be changing the front brake pads on a mk2 focus. Been reading that its possible to "flip" the seals if the bleed nipple isn't cracked open and the hydraulic lines clamped? Has anyone experienced this, or is the Hayne's manual being over cautious? Thanks :)
btmaldon
Ive never experienced that. I have never clamped the lines. Just open the reservoir cap first.

Russ
When I change pads I just open the reservoir lid and as I press the Pistons back slowly I suck some fluid out using a syringe so it doesn't overflow.

Danerel
Have some at the ready :) giving a go this afternoon so will give an update :)
AdeMk1
I've only had this happen on Vauhalls, Fords are generally fine with pushing the pistons back without clamping the flexi hose and opening the bleed nipple.
Danerel
Went all good :) took my time as this was the first time I ever attempted something like this :) seem to be working all fine (he says) :) the brake fluid reservoir in a bit of a bad location for access on the 1.8tdci but managed to get a funnel and tube in there :) I took it slow winding back the pistons and all seems good!! Saved £60 not having the garage do it too :)
AdeMk1
Good stuff. Good idea taking your time as it was your first attempt. Hope you remembered to put the giggling pin back through the laughing shaft after changing the pads.
Danerel
I also gave the callipers a coat of tartan paint and sprayed some wd40 on the brake discs just to help them be smooth ;)
