What is this switch?!?!

Hi guys!

I've had this car for about a year now, it's a 2007 zetec, but I have just now discovered a switch ive never noticed before! It's on the driver side of the centre console below your knee and when I turn it on, the car just beeps like the reversing sensors (but at a slightly different tone) I've looked high and low in all the manuals over the internet and my own which came with the car but no reference to this switch and what it's for!? I would love to know, just for curiosity sake.

I've attached a picture, but excuse the pay and display ticket mess!

Thanks

Andrew

Looks like something aftermarket/DIY to me.

Perhaps an additional alarm/immobiliser?

Well it doesn't have front sensors, but it seems weird to not have any documentation to go with the car? It just yells at you when it's turned on... odd one! We'll have an ask in the garage where we got it from if no one knows?

I would hazard a guess that at some point your car had sensors fitted and for some reason they were removed and a bumper without sensors was fitted.

The noise obviously indicates that the control module is still in place but can't find the sensors.

Aftermarket electro-magnetic sensors? These just have a taped antenna on the inside of the bumper. They don't particularly like my Focus as I mounted the antenna quite close to the crash bar so it picks that up (and squeals at me too).
