Radio interference

Hi there,  I have a very strange problem occurring with a new head unit. So I plugged in the new unit and all worked fine except the radio signal was poor. So I purchased a radio amplifier pc5-52 I think it's called. So I wire it in,  connecting the blue wire to a a 12v supply. I had the unit all plugged in and powered on but I didnnot place it in the dash,  it was in my hand. Signal was great so I install it and signal goes poor,  it all seems earthed,  antenna cables and adapter is insulated and firmly in place and is not being knocked out. Even balancing the radio out of the dash without me touching it and it works, can't be an earth problem,  any ideas? Ford Focus mk2.5 zetec auto

Thanks

depending on the part you ordered, your bodies natural electrical currents, will actually amplify the signal further, but when you install it, the clutter of the dashboard can reduce its effectiveness.

What happens if you install it, but sit it on the chair next to you?
