Jerky throttle response

Got a 07 Fusion Duratec recently while driving noticed a jerky throttle response.

This only happens when the speedometer is not working.

Has any one come across a similar issue.

How to resolve this.

Jerky throttle on its own could be plugs & coil pack, as Jim found, or dodgy throttle body.

But if it really is linked to the speedo failing, then it looks to be more of an electronic problem. Likely suspects are the IC (Instrument cluster) & the wiring to it.

The IC gets speed data from the ABS (or PCM if it is a non-ABS car), and usually it reads one of the dual accelerator pedal sensors, and sends this data to the pcm. The main system bus (HS-CAN) carries this data.

If it is electronic, I would be a bit surprised if no codes (DTCs) were being generated. A system like Forscan can read all the car's modules, and extract any DTCs. These might give a clue, if found.
