Why are fords a nightmare

Bonnet lock broke

Locking wheell nut snapped

Turbo leaking

Good news though all has been fixed after replacing nearly all pipes the turbo started working again. However seems fine on the flat but if I go uphill for to long the turbo cuts out and won't fire up again any ideas

Fixed Or Repaired Daily :)

Are you getting any fault codes logged when power dies? Is it going in to limp mode until you stop engine?

Ha ha

No fault codes except for my faulty DPF sensor

No limp mode just loses turbo boost.

It's strange I can drive anywhere on the flat and the turbo won't stop but as soon as I start going uphill it will die after around 10 seconds, there isn't any more split pipes as they have all been replaced

I reckon you ought to monitor the turbo boost pressure. Forscan can do it, though it is a bit inconvenient.

It could just be that the turbo is working harder uphill, and the pcm is detecting what it thinks is a problem, like boost pressure too low (or even too high?).

An alternative is that air is getting into the fuel system, made worse when uphill. Does it need a steep gradient, or does a gradual, high speed (5th gear) hill also do it?

Ah, I have just noticed the faulty DPF sensor. The pcm will expect a rising reading from that as air flow increases, perhaps that is confusing it at the top end of the power range?

Worth getting that sorted too, it may prevent re-gens & lead to a blocked DPF.

Add it to the list!

Not all Fords need daily repairs, Alex, you grumpy old thing. Mine sometimes goes several weeks without something going wrongwink.pnglaugh.png

Ive recently brought a 1.6 tdci focus 2006,and the engine is the 110bhp version, check the pipe from dpf sensor to exhaust as they perish, replace with silicon pipe, ive also found that everytime i do something to mine it goes into limp mode but no mil light,so i now disconnect battery for a while and runs fine again,i would do that 1st if your still having problems.

I have one of the first Focus mk2.5 1.6 tdci 109 dpf versions on an 08 plate.

It's got a boost leak. Annoyingly it burst the pipe from the intercooler to the engine in the summer (on the drive down for my hols of course) bodged that with tape and cable ties until I could source a replacement pipe.

Seems this car is slightly more odd than most and finding hoses is hardwork. The Cornish garage couldn't find one so I ended up on eBay at home.

Since then it has developed another on boost hiss. With a tell tale oil film on the dpf heat shield. Initially thought the elbow from the top of the engine to the metal pipe that heads down towards the intercooler was to blame but that seems all in order. So it must be the metal pipe which is in fairness a bit scabby.

Can't seem to find them anywhere, can anyone give a pointer and idea of price?

Incidentally has anyone ever bought one of these £135 turbos of eBay for these? Thoughts?

There were loads of Mk2 metal boost pipes on eBay last I checked, now there are hardly any!  I reckon the cars are just getting crushed instead of parted out now.  Plenty of Mk3 pipes on there...

I have found one used one - FORD FOCUS MK2 1.6 TDCI TURBO INTERCOOLER PIPE 2008-2011 EO60 | eBay

Or a new one for £170 - Genuine Ford Focus Mk2 C-Max Focus MPV Intercooler Air Duct Hose 1672189 | eBay

You can also have yours welded, it's usually the bracket that cracks.

As for £135 turbo...I certainly wouldn't risk it lol.

Well done that man!

I actually spotted the used one and dismissed it as being incorrect. I just need it to stop hammering down now so I can strip it off and see how bad it is?

I had considered welding but was concerned it might be a bit thin to weld.

I don't actually need a turbo I just came across them and remember when rebuilding mine I think the core was almost that and the seal kit wasn't far behind. Mines blowing a little from the exhaust side. But seems fine.

Yeah, the risk with a used one is that it might be just about to crack in the sale place though, it doesn't look all that good in the pictures!

I'm not a welder but I have seen these pipes welded up before so it must be doable.

Turbo to manifold gasket?  There isn't one between the turbo & DPF so they often leak a little bit.

Would think it's cheap enough from Ford tbh.  If not, independent motor factors or eBay are probably best.  It's not something that ECP/GSP would sell.
