Generally if the insurance company writes off your car they pay you out and take the car to attempt to recover a portion of their cost. You may be able to negotiate to keep the written off vehicle and receive a lower payout figure, or buy the vehicle back from the insurance company.  I've not heard of an insurance company paying a person out in full and permitting them to keep the vehicle without payment.

I no they deduct some money but it wont be thousands it will be like 100-300 I think I am more than happy for them to deduct that from my pay out Will it be worth repairing the car and keeping it ? Or what is the best way to do it ?

I would be surprised if they let you keep the car for 100-300.  They would receive far more than that from a wrecker's yard.  Good luck to you though if you can get them to agree to that.

I'd get a cheeky quote from a smash repairer's before you make any decisions.

The chassis is compromised so I suspect given the age of the car,  that may be a cat c or if you are unlucky cat b.  Even if you know a good cheap repair place you would be lucky to break even.  Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

The insurance factors in money they can recover from selling the car into their payout,  So you would get significantly less if you wanted to keep the car - but then you are the one landed with either finding a buyer or repairing it yourself.

Take the payout,  if you feel off get checked for whiplash. Only claim for injury if you are injured though.

Easy fix that the vehicle would not be a cat b for that at all, we specialise in damage repairable salvage that come to us direct from insurance companies

What you need to be very cautious of is that they have been notified about every mod on the car. They will look at anything to get out of paying out.If they pay out,be prepaired for a very low offer.Start cutting out adds for very similar cars on auto trader at a price you think is acceptable.Remember they will offer you list price only regardless of what you spent on mods.

They will offer you less than the going price of £2k to £2500 (theres a mint one on Auto trader 54k @ £2475 private @ a dealer you my be looking @ £ 2950 - £3500.

Not good news but remember we are talking insurance companies.Example my other car is a Jimny, got up one morning to find the rear window had been stolen.Nothing else was touched ie satnav sterio trolly jack or tool kit. They only took the tear window, but damaged the seal as it was cut out with a knive of some sort.Police came took prints ect and gave me a crime number.I rang insurance and they said use the windscreen cover (£75 excess).I told them it wasnt cracked or broken its been stolen along with other damage ie the seal.My protected no claims has £50 excess id like to log it as a claim as its THEFT. Argued for a week with these muppets and in the end oais £75 windscreen exess and anothe £78 for the rubber seal. This is now ongoing with the onbudsman for some 7weeks  now.Dont know who im more angry with, the theifs ir the insurance😠

Remember when we were discussing painting brake calipers & i said, quote; ''Long story short,if you change or alter your car in any way from how it left the Factory when it was new & you don't notify them then you are in breach of the Terms & Conditions of your Policy & you are not insured'' & i even posted a seperate thread titled 'Modifications & Insurance Policies' on 20th July? Modifications aren't just about making a car go quicker,it's about changing anything from how it left the Factory when it was new.

I informed my Insurer (Adrian Flux) who added the painted brake calipers & the wind deflectors to my Policy in writing at no extra cost, their confirmation states, quote; ''Please remember to tell us about all modifications to your vehicle, even if they don't enhance performance. If you are in any doubt, please contact us. Although we specialise in modified vehicle insurance, your insurance policy may not be valid if we find that you have not given us accurate information''.

In your other 'Just had an accident' thread you said, quote; '' Yes I did declare alloys but not deflectors or calipers is that classed as modification ?'' If i was in the position that you are right now my asRe would be twitching a bit, what will happen when the Insurance Assessor goes to inspect your car & informs your Insurance Company that as well as the alloys (that you informed them of) it has got wind deflectors, painted brake calipers etc etc that you 'forgot' to inform them of? Yup,that's right. You have invalidated your Insurance Policy & they are quite within their rights to make it null & void,no payout whatsoever for @Patrico777 and there is more........................................................................the Police would be interested in why you're driving a car with no Insurance. This could result in 6 points on your licence & a fine dependant on your income, and there's more.......................................................you could be disqualified from driving & the (damaged) car siezed & crushed.

Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news but from what you've posted that's the way it looks to me,it would be interesting for others to chime in with their thoughts too, maybe @DAN@ADRIAN FLUX. Now i'm not the sort of Guy who tells people what to do but 'some' people in this position 'may' be tempted to remove the wind deflectors & repaint the brake calipers etc etc before the Insurance Assessor arrives

The above is an interesting post and very true.I know a lad who hit the rear of a BMW 318 in his modified 4x4 with a 5inch lift and winch fitted to the front. All modification had been notified but the guy he hit then put a claim in for damages. They claimed that had he not been hit by a modified car (ie 5inch lift plus heavy duty winch and a steel reinforced winch bumper) the injuries he sustained wouldnt of been as severe.

On another note, wasnt there an article a while back in one of the top motoring rags about some EEC law they where trying to enforce where any car that was not factory standard would result in a MOT fail.
