Oliveguzzi
Hello. My 2003 KA was not very well. After only getting 50mph with pedal flat to the floor (intermittent problem) for a couple of weeks and slipping clutch, car passed its MOT. Few days later, hot air coming out of heater vents, wheels and tyres red hot, brakes more rubbish than usual...then pedal went completely. Had servo and master cylinder replaced (second hand) new clutch fitted. Rear wheel cylinder replaced, brakes bled. Bill over £500quid as unfortunately couldn't afford to change for newer car and thought better the devil as owned car for 8yrs! On drive along M1 today, all was well (approx 30 mins at 70mph) , got onto A14 few junctions along and red hot air coming out of heater vents, slight engine jerk and air bag light comes on. Car continues OK but still spluttering now and then, (reduced speed to between 50- 60) off M1 couple miles from home had to keep revs up , then at junction it gave up. Car pushed onto side, dead as a dodo, no turning over, nada, zilch activity. Left to cool down, restarted and made the last dash for home. At this point airbag light gone off and engine management light comes on. Checked oil, water etc all fine. Visibly only thing noticeable some oil around couple of plugs. Any ideas of what's happened? Thank you.
delboy
water pump fail heater matrix blocked or failed. try new ht leads and plugs and air filter then - is the water flowing around the all the coolant pipes let engine got warm undo the expansion bottle cap then feel all the pipes are getting warm or hot if some are not keep it running to try to remove any air through the expansion bottle if they still dont get hot then you have an air lock or a bad thermostat or rad or heater control valve dodgy thermostsat replace control valve fail replace does the fan kick in or has that failed check electrics blocked rad flush through with hose pipe or replace heater control valve fails that will give overheating symptoms as it may remain in the closed position or in your case open all the time. change it along with the thermostsat. on the net a het control valve and thermostat about £20.00 inc p&p defo an over heating problem if it starts again have all the blowers on full and to the hot settings to help keep the engine cool. Oliveguzzi
Thanks for the response Delboy. Fan didn't cut in. Going to attempt to get car back to garage later on this week. Will get your suggestions checked out there and hopefully problem solved! KA done 92,000 and been great until last couple yrs when underneath needed welding, with luck she'll go on for another year or more.👍
delboy
sounds like the fan relay has gone of the fan its self if it's not cutting in when it all gets hot. i had similar on a ford galaxy and it was a relay gone to run the fan let us know the outcome olive
