Hi all

ive noticed a puddle under my car. Its on the drivers side running down one of four tubes. I can see the trail of fluid up the pipe but can't see up behind the bulk head.

The fluid is clear and scented (nice smell too).

im assuming it's AC Fluid but can't be sure.

theres a video of it here

id be grateful for any advice.

It is not the refrigerant from inside the a/c, that would be a gas outside the system.

It is probably just condensation from the cold a/c pipes. Warm & humid weather will make this most noticeable.

If it's scented it could be the washer fluid.

Condensation from the AC won't have a smell unless your air con is actually leaking somewhere. Any pictures?

Screen wash usually has some colour, though drops would look pretty clear. Has the a/c system recently had one of those anti-bac. cleanup treatments? May be some scent in there.

Some people find the smell of anti-freeze nice (one of its dangers, esp. to children), but the level would be dropping.

@Tdci-Peter I thought it could be screen wash bit I don't think it is. The liquid is completely clear, screeny is blue, plus the scent of the screeny is pretty strong and easy to identify.

at it's last service the air con had a little recharge I think...I'll need to check paper work. Normally, unless they say pressure is right down of its more than a few degrees out I leave it alone. £70 for 0.5c correction seems like a waste to me.

ill take it in tomorrow for investigation.

Ok, but bear in mind it could well be condensation, or even just stored rain, that has picked up some scent in its journey.

Coolant & screenwash are the only two watery (non-oily) fluids I can think of that might be a problem if leaking.

I agree about a/c top ups, only do it if needed (warm a/c). But do do it when needed (ie. don't leave it for months if it is low, even in winter).
