Please, help me. How do I test if my handbrake is working correctly ?

I just had my car returned to me, I asked my mechanic ''friend '' ( I'm beginning to use that word loosely concerning him )  to bleed the air out of the fuel lines and as usual I go to collect my car and he hands me a bill for other things he has done but that I have not asked him too do. among which he adjusted the handbrake.

It feels tighter but on hills , not even particularly steep hills it takes about 5 clicks for the car to hold,  Is this about right or should it hold on less clicks ?

thanks

(car is a 2006 mk2 focus sport 1.8 TDCI )

5 clicks sounds about right for age of car. Always leave car in gear when parking on a gradient and turn steering so if HB fails the curb will stop it rolling.

I always get mine tightened to between 3 and 5 clicks.
