Josh_Smith
Hi All, I have a leak in my Air Con and through using a 'sniffer' have found a leak in the condenser. I now need to go about replacing this. I've found a new replacement on euro car parts. The system is empty of gas. How would be best for me to go about replacing it? Do I need seals and a drier too? I have a 2006 MK1 KA. Cheers in advance, Josh

You will need a vacuum pump and other specialist kit to refill the system. I would just replace the condenser, then take it to an a/c specialist to re-fill. They can dry it out, decide if the de-humidifier needs replacing, possibly do a pressure test with dry nitrogen, evacuate it & fill with the correct oil & refrigerant mix. The system must be as dry & air free as possible in order for it to work properly. Moisture can do long term damage to the compressor. I've got an A/C specialist that I use so I'm not worried about getting it re-filled etc. What I want to know is if anyone can lend any advice on the best way for me to remove and replace the condenser unit myself? What seals do I need, do I need to replace the drier too? What's the best way to replace it etc. Sorry if I didn't make it very clear. Cheers!
