Adjusting valve clearances

My Fiesta Mk6 1.25 petrol is due a service in December.  I was looking through the Haynes manual last night and noticed a recommendation to check and adjust the valve clearances.  I can't remember the interval but my Fiesta is due.

The engine runs smooth and sweet.  Should I check the valve clearances anyway?  I've not done it before; is it a difficult task?  Should I perhaps take the car to a garage instead for this one job?

I would leave well alone. time consuming and expensive if adjustment required. clearances shouldn't change much over the lifetime of the engine

Thanks for getting back to me.  Think I'll leave them well alone.

This a a task not worth doing unless you can follow it up and adjust the clearances. If you have a high mileage vehicle (eg 80K+) then it can be beneficial to check / adjust the clearances.

there shims so timing belt off , cams out. major work. you can check them if you want by removing the cam cover and checking clearances
